I have to qualify what I say here, as God says He will hold us ALL accountable for dividing His word correctly, and every careless word we speak, He will hold us accountable for our words at judgement, so I tremble with fear at His words and choose my thoughts and words very carefully, with those words of warning ever present in my mind.

What is GODLY SUPER-NATURAL LOVE?

You better get a cup of coffee :yes !
This is a topic we can't find clearly laid out anywhere in the bible. I searched the bible, and couldn't even find the term SUPER-NATURAL mentioned - Anywhere!
BUT...what I found after decades of study, that only after about the last 5 or 6 years or so, I started becoming aware of this idea, as the Holy Spirit began opening my eyes to this idea of God being SUPER-NATURAL, and that we are ALL called to be SUPER - NATURAL at some point in our walk of faith, and not just become SUPER - NATURAL in Gods character traits, but ACTIVELY loving God and man with those SUPER - NATURAL GODLY LOVING traits - That was a mouth full.

God, and all He is, and all He does, and all He knows, is SUPER - NATURAL.
So if we are called to be like God and Christ, who are SUPER-NATURAL, how do we become SUPER - NATURAL in our every day lives, and LOVE God and ALL OTHERS like God does, SUPER-NATURALLY?

What does SUPER-NATURAL GODLY LOVE mean?
Link1983 who likes the simple Christian life, so I'll say it His way, SIMPLY.
SUPER - NATURAL means BEYOND the NATURAL, and by the way, we are ALL NATURAL, so it means BEYOND US - and everything about us, beyond what can be seen around us, especially Gods SUPER-NATURAL world, and beyond what we can do, because we have limits, that God has put on us as human beings - Gods creation.

God in His word makes it very clear that there are boundaries between what we can know and do, and what He can know and do.
We are limited, and God is limitless.

That's why we pray and ask God to accomplish what we cannot - we have limitations.

So let's expand on that and go to 1st Corinthians 13: 1-7 as an example of the term "SUPER-NATURAL LOVE".

And you say, well who doesn't know all this stuff already?
Well, at least for me and my "pea-sized brain", this is where it got complicated.
We are to become SUPER - NATURAL also, like God and Christ, over time, because we are told to change and mature, and become like God and Christ, and yet, we don't have a clue how to LOVE like He does!

Back to 1st Corinthians 13: 1-7...even more complicated for me at least, at the beginning of my faith as I read those verses, and I remember thinking, well, I'm done for. Who can do any of that or be like that in a lifetime??
And I was right...in the NATURAL !!

So, as life went on, and I studied and prayed, and got involved in ministry work at church, and in my community, and grew over much time in many area's, like many of us do, this idea of God being SUPER-NATURAL started "seeping" into my brain,
but SUPER - NATURAL LOVE???...that was still out there in the future.
Now, over time, I started to comprehend God being SUPER-NATURAL, but the idea of me becoming SUPER-NATURAL LOVE was still beyond me.
You know, being like God and Christ in the qualities and character traits mentioned in 1st Corinthians, let alone anywhere else in the bible.
All through the bible we are told to grow and become like God.
We are told to, but there is no hand book that gives "SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS, and, well, I'm a guy, and we guys need specific directions on EVERYTHING - at least I do:hysterical, having a "Pea sized brain" :lol.

But over time, time makes a lot of things work, I began finding out that yes I could start becoming SUPER-NATURAL like Christ in his character, if I prayed and admitted to God I could do none of what He said to do in the bible, but if I prayed and asked Him to help me, then there seemed to be changes starting to take place, I began caring more about people and their problems and praying for them, and actually feeling an empathetic GODLY, SUPER - NATURAL LOVE.

So, AHAA - a breakthrough.

Not just prayer, but a "Desire" and prayer.
I seriously wanted to change and be like Christ, and have a loving heart like His, but didn't know how, and it became more and more frustrating as I kept persisting and "Pestering" God about this, because I was serious.
I didn't want to try on my own anymore as this never worked. I was tired of trying to become like Him on my own, as nothing ever worked for me.
So I found for me, the key was desire and prayer to be like Him, so I could have His AUTHENTIC qualities and character trait of HIS LOVE, to be TRULY LOVING from my heart, and not be a "clanging cymbal, or a noisy gong".
You know - not being legalistic and a rule keeping and a pretender. I wanted to be AUTHENTIC from my heart, and Love like God loves.

So in conclusion, AUTHENTIC, GODLY, SUPER-NATURAL LOVE is impossible for man, and yet, ABSOLUTELY necessary for SALVATION, but absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for us without surrendering our lives to God in prayer, and admitting all he requires from us for salvation is impossible without our desire and prayers and supplications Phil. 4:6, and dependence on the Holy Spirit,

OK now, PLEASE, give me more than a thumbs up, as this is about CONVERSATION and feedback, getting more comfortable TALKING about GODLY LOVE - SPECIFICALLY, giving your own perspective on this, even if there's things you disagree with, or you disagree with everything, as differences of opinion to me are good, and give us all more to consider.
Talk about the GODLY LOVE you have learned about yourself, or want to learn more about.
Or tell me I'm too long winded like my oldest son tells me... regularly :biggrin2.

I couldn't say this any differently, SORRY LINK 1983, so if you read this whole thing, God bless you, and I hope you got something positive out of it, and, no, I am out of Pepsi and Coke.
Some of you will get that.

Yeah...God didn't have much luck either when He brought this message of love to Moses and the Children of Israel.
And we all know what happened to Jesus when He came. Jesus died for this message of love, not only for the Jews again, but also for the Christian faith, who has mostly ignored it for 2000 years, but there are still a "FEW" who believe in Gods message of love, and live by it, and in it, and through it.
The "FEW" in Matth. 7:14 - PRAISE GOD!!
The truth is still the truth :clap.
I don't mind no responses. I love everyone here, and hope that His message of love becomes part of your message to the world also, in how you love all those around you with Gods SUPER-NATURAL LOVE.

What does the Bible say? Read 1 John!
He clearly states that God IS love!
We are not, but is only found in Understanding Him as a loving father.
Shalom!

That's the easy part to understand, that God is love. At least to me it was pretty easy.
Actually it's easy because it's a pretty shallow description of God, with no explanation
about why God loves us, or what makes His love different.
Now days we just explain God's love as something that just is.
There's no depth of explanation of how it applies to us anymore, or how we are to emulate His love
back to Him or how to love others His way.

I think whats happened, is starting a long time ago, sometime between Moses becoming the Israelites leader, and Jesus first coming, is that very early the Jews started ignoring the idea and practice of Godly love, and then Godly love became obsolete, then love was forgotten, and now today, GODLY SUPER-NATURAL LOVE has become IRRELEVANT.

No one talks about it or understands it anymore.

The NEW CHRISTIANITY has a new foundation of faith and truth called RULE KEEPING and LEGALISM, and Godly love has been forgotten, again.

Why do you think we need "MODERATORS" on all forums? No Godly LOVE, or unity in love !!!

Moderators keep the PEACE, because there is no PEACE or LOVE in peoples hearts.

We don't explain to them why they should be loving and kind, we tell them to FOLLOW THE RULES !!

I think it is because walking in the footsteps of Jesus doesn't seem logical. But, if you are seeking true love you'll find it.

We are called to pick up our cross just as he did for us.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples,"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." - Jesus

I like what you said here.
God just revealed all this to me a few years ago about love, as I was getting more frustrated with no one in my life talking or preaching about love.
I finally went to God in prayer, and asked Him to help me learn about how to love Him and how to love those who come into my life. Especially those more challenging, and God did just that - He began teaching me.
I'm still a WIP, but that's OK, as that's where I'll be until I pass.

Nobody gets it perfect, but I love the process of trying to.

Bless you my friend for your excellent words.

When we are born we are natural. When the Holy Spirit comes to us and we accept him we become Supernatural. Since God is Supernatural we are now kindred spirits with him. Although we must obey his commands we share his Spirit.

Oligos: I love everything you said in your post. It's excellent.

When we are Supernatural, we rise above our base instincts. We are more than our human emotions. We are able to love those who are unlovable. We're able to share what we want to keep for ourselves. We can reach out to strangers and tell them about God's love. We have strength and courage that we have never known before. We have everything we need to become emissaries of God. We are Supernatural.

If we go back to our old ways we are not Supernatural anymore. So it's important to stay close to God and obey his commandments. The most important commandment is love one another, and in this way we will stand above the crowd. When people ask us how we can love everyone, we tell them about Jesus. They say they want what we have and so God turns to them and they are born again . And they also become Supernatural. And the word spreads. And we grow as a community. As the song goes "What the world needs now is love sweet love."

A song called 'I wanna be like you' has three lines that have stuck in my mind for some time now. I never listened to the other words in the song.
I often find myself singing them (not out loud) to God
"I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
I wanna talk like you "
Impossible I know, but we can be as like Jesus as He allows. I've got a long, long way to go.

To me true pure love is the most important thing. I pray for it often. 1 Corinthians 13:13 tells us to abide in love and love is greater than faith and hope.

Tthe message to Ephesus in Revelation 2 tells them Jesus knows of all their good works and perseverance, but He warns them they have lost their first love.

Seasoned by Grace my coffee has gone cold.

Fabulous thread.

Amen. Can you say more about how we've lost our first love. Does this mean we've lost our love of self and family to devote ourselves to the love of God. To me my love of self and family were diminished but not lost. What do you think our first love is?

Well Susannah, I'm not Tessa, but I'll give you my input.
I hope we haven't lost our first love. Our first love talked about in Rev. 2, is the love and passion we all felt after our conversion, and wanted to take on the world for Christ. We would do anything for Him and told everyone we could find about our conversion and great love for our savior.

BUT...over time, those who lost their first love, lost it by settling into a faith with less intensity, less commitment, less energy and less excitement about this gift of salvation given to all of us freely. They became "Christian couch potatoes" so to speak, and lost their gratitude for a new life given to them by God, kind of like the Jews lost their gratitude after God parted the RED SEA and saved them in Egypt from slavery, but it didn't take them long to start complaining to Moses and God about their living conditions in the desert.

I still feel passionate about my God, I hope everyone here does also.

Thank you for this explanation. It really lifts my spirits. The Holy Spirit came to me in 1982 and I have never lost my passion and devotion to the Lord. It shifted from God to Jesus in 2015 and got even more exciting. So I must be doing something right.

The Awaited Suitor

I face the horizon and take God's hand. In great expectation I look over the land. Nothing happens oh woe is me. When will I see you? When will it be? With tears in my eyes, I look up and smile. God cups my face and after while. He softly speaks and breaks the news. I am the one that was chosen for you. Can you love me year after year as you would have loved him if he had appeared? My face grew pale and my body shook. I took his hand too frightened to look. Then I agreed to give it a try. My Suitor was here. He has finally arrived.

Our relationship with God can be reflected in the marriages we see around us.
Some marriages get too comfortable to quick, or maybe life gets horribly busy
and we are too distracted, in either case, we need to give our marriage and our partner the
attention they need, and the attention our marriage needs to keep it alive and exciting
and fun, by the energy we put into it and the communication we keep with our
partner, to keep working together to keep the marriage fresh.
Good marriages don't just happen. They take place because both partners are committed
together through planning, to keep each others needs met, to be happy with each other, and protect their marriage intentionally by asking each other how they are doing for their partner to keep them happy.

I see our connection with God in similar ways, as it's a relationship too, that needs to be cherished and protected by the choices we make, and the concern we have for, in our case, making sure we do what makes God happy with us.

Happy long term marriages are long term and happy because partners not only love their partner, but they like them, most of the time, and enjoy their company, and appreciate how life is better because of them.

I see God like that too. In scripture, He calls us His friend, and in other places we're called His bride.

So friend or bride, we're in a relationship with God, and it takes work to make relationships successful. They don't just happen. We should cherish that relationship, and let that feeling of cherishing be the engine that continually drives our desire to be the best we can for our God, and for those around us

I agree with Seasoned by Grace totally
Think back to when you first became a follower of Jesus. The love you had for Him, the passion to share that joy and love you found. That just grows and grows unless we let it die. Susannah I doubt very much that you have lost your first love. Your love for the Lotd shines through.

I appreciate you. When I first joined the Forum the Bible scholars told me I was too focused on love and not the rest of the scripture. I knew they were wrong but it's nice to find someone else that agrees with me. God bless you ❤

Hi all.
I think that even though there isn't much response here on the LOVE topics the last few days, I feel so blessed that God found me worthy to receive His wisdom over many years of struggling to make sense of what he was imparting to me through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, through His word, and be able to have a place to share it.

I'm assuming that people have problems with this topic because this is never talked about the way I have, but that doesn't mean it's not the truth, it just means it's the "MEAT" of the word, not the "MILK", which people, even preachers and pastors and teachers haven't been exposed to, because the teaching was lost and changed ages ago..
Being different doesn't necessarily make it wrong, it's just a deeper version of what we already know, in a shallower,
much shallower version, that can at least be considered.
It could be for some, that it's just easier to ignore what I've said than to try to understand what I said. I get that because it took decades to grow in this topic from the "Milk" to the "MEAT", but I made it in the Spirit and LOVE IT.

It's so incredibly beautiful to be at this point of my faith, and have this deepening stage of my beliefs that give me more completeness as I grow in more than just this topic, but so many more.

It's so hard to describe what it's like when your opened up to more and more of Gods teaching from His word from the Holy Spirit that goes far beyond my own earlier comprehension of scripture.
But growing into the "MEAT" continually is one of Gods commands for us, and I'm so thankful that God called me to a place I would never had ever even thought of by myself. For me all of this is a MIRACLE from GOD HIMSELF.

God bless you all, and am thankful to be able to share my thoughts here, even if you reject these thoughts, I'm thankful you took the time to be here.

Scripture tells us that love is the greatest gift of all. It is a spiritual gift. It takes you to new heights and the feeling is very difficult to describe. Everything looks and feels different. You can feel the Holiness of God.
It brings you joy and strengthens your faith. You are able to cope better with trials and tribulations . Because you can feel that immeasurable love nothing looks the same any more. Nothing feels the same any more.

What is GODLY SUPER-NATURAL LOVE?

Spiritual love.

A love that flows from The Lord Jesus Christ because we are
“in Christ”, joined with Him, and are one spirit with Him.

Super Natural is another way of saying “spiritual”.

As I said in the other thread...

I think many of us look at these scriptures and see that we want to have a greater amount of love and the attributes of love than we presently have because for the Christian there is a deep inward desire to be more like Jesus, no matter how far we have come in the ways of love we all know there is more to have... that we may be filled to all the fullness of Christ.

For me personally, there has been the turning away of things that entangle me in things contrary to His character, then I am able to lay hold of more.

IOW, for me it has always been... what am I willing to give up to attain more of Him, who is Love?

For His Spirit, which is love, to flow through me, I must spend time alone with Him, seeking Him and allowing His Life to fill mine again and again. The more this happens, the more “I” seem to dissolve and take on more of His Life within me.

What does the Bible say? Read 1 John!
He clearly states that God IS love!
We are not, but is only found in Understanding Him as a loving father.
Shalom!

That is surely the beginning of understanding His love.

What is so beautiful about God and His love, is there are so many layers of His Love to learn about and experience.
Like pealing an onion, not only does our bibles have many layers and depths to understand, but the love of God has many, many layers to understand also, as we grow and mature, and find an intimacy with Him, that reveals a deeper understanding, and a more complete understanding of Him, as we surrender our lives and surrender our ungodly will to Him, to receive more of His LOVING nature.

God bless you my friend as you walk ever closer to our Lord
