There is salvation in no other, for there is not another name under heaven having been given among men, by which it behooves us to be saved."

Personally, I think as humans we concentrate on the wrong thing. We concentrate on the salvation we hope for but in reality our focus should be on whom that salvation comes. In the end it is God's decision who will or will not be saved.

Psalms 3:8
Salvation belongeth unto the Lord:
thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

What we are called to do is two things:
  1. Love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
  2. Love each other as ourselves.

1 Chronicles 16:23
Sing unto the Lord, all the earth;
shew forth from day to day his salvation.

Over and over again the scripture speaks of singing unto the Lord a song showing forth His salvation; but many want to focus on sin instead.

That's it! Whether you believe you were saved at some point in your past, whether you are saved now, whether you will be saved at some point in the future, whether salvation is a one-time event or whether it is something that happens over a period of time our focus should be on loving God and each other and let God do the saving.

Salvation is from generation to generation.

Isaiah 51:7-8
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness,
the people in whose heart is my law;
fear ye not the reproach of men,
neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment,
and the worm shall eat them like wool:
but my righteousness shall be for ever,
and my salvation from generation to generation.

Scripture says that He elects some people for salvation.

Could you share the scripture that says God elects some people for salvation?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

JLB

Several OT verses say that God desires/prefers to dwell
with those who have contrite and humble hearts.
Scripture says that He sees the end from the beginning,
i.e. all of man's history.
Scripture says that He elects some people for salvation.
Then there's Romans 9.
All of these people ... God predestines one way or the other.
So, what's the problem?
your dealing with reformed theology the whosoever will/shall Romans 10 says it all shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved

I just started working on a thread which might be titled:
"Chosen and called to holiness".
There are many NT verses which teach us that God chose and called (elected) people (before the foundation of the world).

Ok.

I will check it out.

Thanks Ed

I apologize for my apparent lack of understanding but is there a point I should note?

The election of God is to all who will answer His calling unto His salvation as God said, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy. Romans chapter 9.

i am not in disagreement with scriptures but when dealing with calvinism they take chosen predestine to a new level .it has been a long time since i discussed the issues .but they come close to seeing you have to be quickened first before you can be saved like a 2 step program. personally i see being quickened as part of the plan of salvation. quicken means to be made alive (spiritually ) they also lean heavy on romans 9

we are made Holy the moment we get saved .sanctified set apart we then become a work in progress.. how soon many forget we are all that wip being changed from glory to glory one step at a time==growth

Yes, but very few want to accept Romans 9.
I have thought God chose based on what He has said in the OT:
"I desire to dwell with those who have humble & contrite hearts."
I know a lady who has the gift of prophecy, and she recently said that she believes God elects those who are open to believing in Jesus and His gospel, etc. ... re: ...

its the interpretation of Romans 9 that is rejected

Salvation is offered to those who were "chosen and called" (elected) by Father God before the foundation of the world.
(Isn't it obvious that NOT everyone is chosen and called?)
Salvation is only through God's grace (unmerited favor),
but believers can "fall from grace" (and lose their salvation)
for several different reasons!

The Subject of the OP is Salvation. It is not about OSAS. It is not about predestination or election. If you wish to discuss those topics, please feel free to start your own tread on the subject matter.

As it is, it seems that most here can't seem to separate Sin from Salvation. That's a shame. Salvation is of the Lord. The focus should be on the Lord and His Glory.

How can the bride prepare herself when she doesn't even know what garments to wear?

i fail to see mention osas and who are you replying to ?

Revelation 14:1-5
And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

They sang as it were a new song. Only the redeemed can learn it.

Senior said "but believers can "fall from grace" (and lose their salvation)
i am putting my favorite broken record ..why people want to argue over can you or you can not.. the certainly is security in our salvation. and no it is not a license to sin paul covered that in romans 6..God Forbid we are told to walk in the Light to confess our sins..sort of like the old expression they would gripe if they was hung with a new rope .paul said to work out our own salvation..not argue it out

Salvation isn't just a saving from. It is a saving onto.
I think you see a picture of it in the case of the woman caught in adultery, about to be stoned.
Christ saves her from that punishment, but then tells her to rise and sin no more. He sends her off to be different.
We aren't just saved from the wages of our sin, eternal death and hell, but saved onto eternal life as new creations, different, sanctified, holy in His eyes.

Her salvation was not of being punished for her sins. Her salvation was deliverance from those who accused her of those sins.

I just said it was kind of a picture. Not an eyewitness account of her salvation from her sins. The point is we aren't just saved from our eternal peril to simply continue on our previous way.

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

A contrite heart is a repentant heart as one humbles their self before the Lord when they hear and answer His call to His salvation. God revives our spirit and renews our heart that we become a people pleasing unto Him. This is the Spiritual rebirth of God's salvation by His grace and mercy, John 3:5-7; Ephesians 2:8.
