I use either a NASB or a NKJV. When I'm on my computer studying I use the Geneva study bible of 1511, the predecessor to the KJV.

I like the KJV because it brings me closer to God then any other translation. I dont know why but it just gives me a deeper fealing. KJV is the best in my books the nkjv is also good.

This is an excellent write up on the history of the bible and comparisons of the different translations. What was left out of which translations and suggests which bible is most close to the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
Where did the Bible come from?

This write up doesn't give enough history, but is still a good resource for comparing the different version.
Which Bible should I Use?

IMPORTANT! Read all of the precautions listed below.

Be careful you don't stray form the most reliable text. some Catholic versions have altered as many as 6000 scriptures. And a lot of the newer translations are based upon the Westcott-Hort Greek text, which is what most of the Catholic versions are based upon. Even the New King James version can confuse while interpretating verse is imperative to the accuracy of the text.
Read the sections in the article Where did the Bible come from?
on How Reliable are the New Translations (pages 8-10 ) . And the section on How to test a Bible Translation (pages 10-12)

If you use a newer translation always use it parallel to the the King James version.

I am reading through a King James Red letter version, which I got 3 years ago at my Confirmation.

I use the NASB version. I used NIV before that and loved it, and way before that I use the Good News version. Those three are my favorites.

I use New American Standard. I like it, though occasionally I like a different translation better.

I really like the New Living Translation, it helps me a lot, cause it's put simpler. It helps me understand it better.

I prefer the NKJV because it is pretty close to the actual thing. I would like to learn Greek and Hedrew so that i can read it word for word from how it was written.
