And...that's the whole reason I reject your interpretation of those verses. You've added the words "as long as" when they DO NOT OCCUR.

That's the point that it seems you're not willing to accept.

Of course they add something. Not "explain" something. They add what's NOT THERE.

They add what you'd wish was there. But aren't there.

There are NO VERSES that include the concept of "as long as...".

You've not even tried to use Greek grammar to support your theory. But even if that was tried, it can be easily shown that not even the verses with the present tense support your claim, and those verses with the aorist tense refute your claim.

There it is again, "as long as". That is an opinion only, without any evidence from Scripture.

That's why it's impossible to even have a reasonable discussion with those of your views on eternal security. The concept of "as long as" is so strong, YET without any support from Scripture.

Those words do not occur. Not in words, and not in idea.

What Jesus said is clear. Those who have been given eternal life, which occurs WHEN one believes, shall never perish.

So reading John 10:28 and inserting "as long as..." anything else is simply rejecting what Jesus said and adding what one WANTS Jesus to say instead.

As long as means the same as "if" as in, if you abide in me, as there are over 31 verses that speak about abiding in Christ. "if" is a conjunction word that is a conditional term that means as long as you abide in me, but if you no longer abide in me then you are none of mine and the guarantee is no longer promised to you as you no longer abide in me and my word. No one can pluck us out of the hands of Christ, but for whatever reason many allow themselves to be plucked out as they no longer believe and abide in the word. I can't make it any plainer.

As long as you believe and stay grounded in faith. To those who do the promise irrevocable.
Not sure what you're saying there.
However, salvation is not conditional. It is eternal and irrevocable because God bestowed it as a gift of his grace. Grace of God being synonymous with beneficience.
We do not work to stay saved because we did not work to be saved. Jesus did it all because God had faith in those who would respond to the name of his only son before this whole thing began.

I said:
"Where does one find the condition of "enduring persecution" in ANY of the verses about being sealed and being guaranteed an inheritance?

Conflating unrelated verses in order to try to support a theory is not legitimate Bible study."
To have a fruitful Bible study we must not take a verse, or part of a passage, and isolate it, but rather we should reconcile what all the scriptures have to say about a given subject.
Is this really a claim that every single verse in the Bible shares a common context? That is nonsense, imho.

Disconnecting our inheritance in God’s kingdom, from that Day when He returns to grant to each of those who have been faithful in this life, to enter His kingdom, which is when we inherit eternal life in the kingdom of God, is not sound Bible Study.
And I fully agree, so this ridiculous insinuation that I have tried to do so is fallacious.

The whole point of Paul in Eph 1:13,14 is that those who have believed have been sealed with the Holy Spirit, who is a deposit, GUARANTEEING their inheritance.

Now, please explain what this inheritance that is guaranteed actually is. And keep in mind it is GUARANTEED.

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. Matthew 19:29
This verse is about eternal reward, not salvation, as it seems is commonly believed.

Heirs have the hope of inheriting something in the future.
Yes, they do. Eternal reward.

For those who who have faith in Christ Jesus, we have the hope of inheriting the kingdom of God, in which we will be joint heirs with Christ.
Again, the Greek word for "hope" isn't "wishful thinking", but a confident expectation of salvation. And ONLY those believers who have suffered for Him (Rom 8:17b) and have endured (2 Tim 2:12) will be a joint heir with Christ.

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:16-17
Here in v.17 we see 2 different heirships. All believers are "heirs of God" on the basis of being God's children, from John 1:12 and Gal 3:26. But only those believers who have suffered with Him will be joint heirs with Christ.

This requires discernment. Those with it will see the difference.

What inheritance would the prodigal son have had if he never would have repented and returned to his father, but remained lost?
He was only lost in the literal sense, given the parable, and not in the eternal sense. And the point of the parable was to illustrate God's incredible grace.

If we are honest, we know he would have no inheritance, but would have been lost forever.
Nope. As a child of God, he would still be an heir of God, per Rom 8:17a, but he definitely would have lost all reward.

Not nitpicking, just showing you have done the same thing you accused me of doing. That's called a double standard.
I was accused of adding words to verses, as you've done, but I proved that the words were NOT added, but that there are 6 English translations that have the words I used.

Again, where is the actual words you added that say "a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come." as those words are not in my KJV Bible. Maybe you are using a different Bible. This is only words of explanation like I used "as long as".
At the bottom of my posts is a statement about which translation I quote from. However, if the NIV isn't acceptable to you (without cause), please feel free to go to Biblehub and put in any verse and you'll get 28 English translations of that verse.

I never said any 1 verse had the words "a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come". Eph 1:14 tells us plainly what is to come: the day of redemption. 2 Cor 1;22 and 5:5 have the words " guaranteeing what is to come", and which is the subject of the OP.

Eph 1:14 answers the question of the OP.

As long as you believe and stay grounded in faith. To those who do the promise irrevocable.
Please actually quote any verse that includes the words "as long as", which seems to be your favorite phrase. I've never found such a phrase in regard to keeping salvation.

What is irrevocable, according to the Bible, is the gift of eternal life.

Rom 6:23 tells us that the gift of God is eternal life, and Rom 11:29 tells us that God's gifts and call are irrevocable.

Quite simple, really.

Our garantee is the promise of eternal life when Christ returns and we are saved at that time.
Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

What many are missing is the word "shall" in Matthew 24:13 as it's expressed as a future tense that indicates a promise.

For by grace, as it's only Gods favor extended to all who will receive it by faith, is a free gift as we become His workmanship created in Christ unto good works that God ordained that we should continue walking in the good works of Christ, Ephesians 2:8; Matthew 25:31-40. We can not earn our salvation by our own works nor do we even deserve Gods grace, Genesis 6:6-8. Only by a mustard seed of faith do we come to Christ and repent of our sins are we then only washed clean by the blood of Christ and become Spiritually reborn again (not saved) through the Spiritual rebirth of John 3:3-6 by that of Romans 10:9,10.

Matthew 24:13 says that those who endure until the end shall be saved. This means enduring all the trials and tribulations that this world will bring against us for the sake of our witness and testimony of Christ, Acts 14:22, Rev 2:10. The end means the end of our days here on this present earth when those in the grave and we who are still alive at His coming will then be caught up to Christ and are saved at that time as we have endured all things and never gave up our faith in Christ.

God's word never said we would not go through trials or tribulations, but through many trials and tribulations if we endure until the end then we will see the Kingdom of God, Acts 14:22, as we are all called into discipleship as we share our witness and testimony with those who have not yet repented and turned back to God. God allows us to go through trials and tribulations so that we will always remain in His will no mater what comes against us.

As long as means the same as "if" as in, if you abide in me, as there are over 31 verses that speak about abiding in Christ.
And there's the rub. Every believer is sealed with the Holy Spirit, who is the One who places us IN HIM. And this seal is a guarantee for the day of redemption. So it should be obvious that being sealed in Him is different than abiding in Him, which is a command to obey.

The believer is sealed on the basis of "having believed". Not by any action of works or deeds or anything else. It is God the Holy Spirit who seals us IN HIM and is a GUARANTEE for the day of redemption. This seal cannot be broken by anything, for several reasons:
1. There are NO VERSES that speak of this specific seal being broken by any means. Please don't bring up physical seals. They are irrelevant.
2. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit (our seal) would be with us forever. John 14:16
3. If "abiding in Him" was a ref

With rerence to salvation, the very command to abide in Him would indicate that we save ourselves by obeying the command. Which doesn't make sense.

Do believers have the power to place themselves into union with Christ? No.
Do believers have the power to remove themselves from union with Christ? No.

Those who believe are in God's hand, and Jesus says "no one" is able to remove them from God's hand. John 10:28,29.

So to claim that the believer themself can do so is to claim (conscious or not) that the believer is more powerful than God's hand. I strongly reject that as blasphemous.

Further, Paul said that there is "nothing in the present or in the future" that can separate us (the believer) from the love of Christ. Rom 8:38

That means anything in the future.

"if" is a conjunction word that is a conditional term that means as long as you abide in me, but if you no longer abide in me then you are none of mine and the guarantee is no longer promised to you as you no longer abide in me and my word.
Please quote any verse that says God's guarantee is revoked, no longer promised, etc IF anything.

No one can pluck us out of the hands of Christ, but for whatever reason many allow themselves to be plucked out as they no longer believe and abide in the word. I can't make it any plainer.
You've made your point very clear. So now, the believer simply "allows themselves" to be plucked out.

Think about this. If "no one" is ABLE to snatch one of His sheep out of His hand, how in the world does "allow themselves" to be plucked out of His hand.

What Jesus said was that "no one" is powerful enough to remove one of His sheep. So it's simply NOT possible for one to "allow themself" to be removed.

You've brought in a passive condition, yet Jesus was speaking about an active condition. And any active condition would trump any passive condition.

And, the bottom line is this: there are no verses that actually support what is being claimed in your view.

Our garantee is the promise of eternal life when Christ returns and we are saved at that time.
Where does the Bible say that our guarantee is a promise. Esp a promise that can be broken???

Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Check the context. It's about the 7 year period we call the Tribulation.

Looking forward to any verse that says our guarantee is only a promise that God can break.

That's tantamount to a lie. Anyone, God included, who makes a promise, and then breaks that promise, is a liar. Plain and simple.

The Bible says that God cannot lie. Therefore, He cannot break any of His promises.

No, the OP was quite clear. As is the Bible, about "what is to come". In Eph 1:14, we know that the believer's inheritance is guaranteed for the day of redemption.

Here's the verse: " who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory."

Then, in Eph 4:30 we have this: "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."

So, what is to come is the believer's GUARANTEED INHERITANCE for the day of redemption.

This is irrelevant to the OP. It's about what is GUARANTEED. And what is GUARANTEED for the day of redemption is the believer's inheritance.

How is this GUARANTEE not about eternal security?

As long as one understands the Greek word for "hope" in the NT means "confident expectation", or "surety", I agree with your statement.

Hope means we do not yet have what we are hoping for.

If we have hope then we have an expectation of something in the future, not in the present.

To become born again or quickened by Gods Spirit, IS to be saved by Gods grace. Titus 3:5. This is the problem with “free will” Arminian (Pelagianism) soteriology. You are contradicting yourself and centering and conditioning salvation in man. Man centered theology which results in works based salvation. I know this will be denied but it’s the truth. To deny Gods Sovereignty in salvation ultimately denies eternal salvation in Christ by His merits alone. To deny the election of God in salvation ultimately denies salvation by grace alone. It’s shown throughout by many on this forum and is why mans works are elevated to the point of maintaining ones salvation. Modern day Judaizers which Paul condemns in Galatians 2. What is labeled as “Calvinism” today is the only true understanding of soteriology according to scripture. Synergistic free will worship is what brings confusion and heretical anti Christ doctrines of Devils. And is why there is no resolution to this argument being debated by Arminians of all stripes

FreeGrace, I don't know what more I can add that I haven't already said in the three pages. Since this is your thread and you have your mind set as to not want to try and understand what I and JLB are showing you it is time to walk away as this point forward I would only be repeating myself, so God bless and have a good day :)

But.......
No.
Jesus did not die to bestow a lie.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have immortal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

2 Corinthians 11 (KJV)
1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.

2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

5 For I suppose I was not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles.

6 But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.

7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?

8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.

9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

16 I say again, let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little.

17 That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.

18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.

19 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise.

20 For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face.

21 I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also.

22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.

23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.

25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;

26 In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?

30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.

31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.

32 In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me:

33 And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.

I'm not Armenian nor a Calvinist, but only a blood bought child of God that by His grace that I am saved through faith, which is Christ Jesus that I have the promise that I will be saved from the lake of fire if I abide in Him and His word. If I am no longer abiding in Christ and His word and lost all hope of salvation in Him then that promise becomes void by my own doing and not Gods doing.

What transiatory salvationists don't appear to comprehend is the scriptures.
For the indwelt Christian who is eternally saved in God's irrevocable gift of grace covenant, there is no returning to the state of damnation. Or, being "un-saved".
God did it all. And when he said his gifts are irrevocable, and salvation is a gift through his grace, that's exactly what he meant.

Nor have I ever even tried to "disconnect our inheritance from the day of judgment". What a silly charge.

The whole point of Paul in Eph 1:13,14, 4:30 and 2 Cor 1:22 and 5:5 is that those who have believed are GUARANTEED an inheritance for the day of redemption. Not a "maybe", not a "hope-so". But a GUARANTEE.

You seem to be using the word "guarantee" as a modern rendering, rather than what the original word means.

It's a down payment, or earnest.

IOW He has done His part, to show us He will make good on His promises, so all that is left is for us to make good on our commitment when we committed our-self to Him in obedience of the Gospel.

The Holy Spirit that we have in this life is the down payment, until the Day of Judgement, in which each of us will be Judged, to determine our deeds.

28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. John 5:28-29

  • those who have done good, to the resurrection of life

God who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; Romans 2:6-7

  • eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

On that Day, the Lord will be looking for those who were faithful with the measure, each one had been given.

20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what isyours.’

26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.

29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Matthew 25:20-30

Those who produce nothing with the measure of His Spirit they had been given have even what they received from Him taken from them.

  • even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Jesus made it clear, about that Day, and those who were fruitful and faithful with the measure they had been given, verses those who produced nothing with His life they had been freely given as a gift.

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
for I was hungry and you gave Me food;
I was thirsty and you gave Me drink;
I was a stranger and you took Me in;
I was naked and you clothed Me;
I was sick and you visited Me;
I was in prison and you came to Me.’

Sure there is. There must be if it is to be believed. You'll need show the words of God that state precisely everything that is accomplished through his grace and our faith in Christ is able to be undone by our will alone.
The passage that states the Holy Spirit that indwells us can be made to leave. The passage that states we can revoke our regeneration and revert to the old creation that was dead in our sin. That all the sins that were put under the blood that God remembers no more can be resurrected from under the blood of the lamb and attach back to our soul so that we move forward acquiring more sins atop those. And that passage that says God recalls our sins that the scriptures had earlier stated once in faith and redeemed in Christ he would remember no more.
