What's for Easter where you live?
And with whom are you spending this blessed holiday?

This was on another post for me....
Antipasto....the BEFORE dinner.

Antipasto does not have to be finger food,,,but that's the idea.

Don't tell, but I'm going to try to sneak my daughter, her husband,
and their two children (20, and 17) here.
We see them all the time anyway and we keep away from everyone else.
If we get caught, it's a E400. fine for each person. (about $410.-)

You're brave sneaking em in. haha

I had debated if I should invite my mom and her boyfriend over to be with me and my family of 4. My husband decided against it.

Your food looks like it's gonna be wonderful.

We usually do a brunch thing on Easter, but being the situation it is........I have a trusty ol'turkey defrosting currently. If I do turkey, then I have to do my side of the family's tradition of aspic. Hardly anyone else likes it.

Smart!
You get to eat most of it....
How come I never thought to do this?????

And....
Those are images from google....
My food won't be looking EXACTLY like that !
But it is pretty good.

A friend is making me two different cakes.
That was nice of her.
Still need a meat. I HATE to make lamb for Easter...
most Italians do this.

P.S. I've never had aspic...
what's in it?

It will be the first time ever in history that we won't have any friends or family besides us, so that will be interesting.

That is very sweet of your friend to make you some cakes!
It is cool to hear what different countries have as their holiday traditions. Kinda makes sense to have lamb for Easter.

My aspic won't look like the picture either. It will be flopped into a small casserole dish.
The recipe consists of gelatin, tomato soup, cream cheese, mayo, green olives and onion.

Im going to sneak over to my parents place . Im not sure if im allowed
I became so tired of seeing constant C19 news that I stopped watching TV

After we eat i'll put on one of the Jesus movies i have for us to enjoy together

We are going to do Easter alone.
We usually don't...but have to this year...things are getting worse around here.
There's no way I want to infect anyone inadvertently. Nor am I really looking forward to catching this thing myself.

I've had lamb, ham, or Turkey for the day. Usually some kind of potato salad. Asparagus and green bean casserole. And of course strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Also we usually have some kind of chocolate for dessert as well...usually a cake. My grandmother used to have a coconut cake complete with 7minute icing. But I'm not a coconut fan. So we usually don't do that

Gelatin salad? Possibly...about half the time.

When my kids were growing up, we'd watch Jesus of Nazareth for Christmas and for Easter.
We all know that movie by heart! At least they got some bible study....my daughter is saved.
I also have a son...he says he is...maybe.

You're not supposed to go to your parents place.
But we won't tell anyone.

Have a blessed Easter.

Yeah...you're just starting with the CV over there....
we're at the tail end so we're starting to get a little brave...but not too much yet.

Maybe by the end of April things will START to get back to normal.
God help us all.

Easter blessings to you and your family

wondering may I ask how u learnt how to read and write English so well?

I know these days they teach English as a 2nd language in all the European countries
But im fairly sure weren't teaching English when you went to school in Italy

Im thinking maybe you lived in an English speaking country but even then you need schooling to be able to read and write as well as u do.

So where did u learn the Inglese?

The more i think about it the more curious i get.
There are a lot of Italians here as there are a lot of European immigrants

So I know plenty of nonnas and nonnos from all over Europe.
Only about 10% know how to actually read and write English

Those nonnos and nonnas that do know how to read and write English all came here when they were teenagers or even younger. They were able to learn from going to school here. The ones that immigrated here and didn't go to school can barley read and cannot write well.

So after giving it a bit of thought im going to take a guess and say that u spent part of your youth in an English speaking country and went to school there...

Either that or something doesn't add up.
A nonna in Italia that reads and writes English as well... LoL... Na
Maybe u did work that required you to learn English. Maybe i don't know.

If I could hear how u speak English then id know almost everything about u... LoL
Na im just interested in language.

I LIVE in Italy....
But I grew up in NYC.
I went to school there (Queesn) and I worked there and
I raised my family there --- 2 kids who are both married with children.

And I had a job that required perfect English, both spoken and written.
I speak a dialect (my parents) and I taught myself how to speak and write Italian.
My husband and I have been here many years so my Italian is fluent, but, of course,
I speak English better because I studied over there.

You could stop being confused now!!!
:)

Ah haaa... busted... U see signora, I knew it didn't I.
I like to think im fairly perceptive with languages.

So i was wrong with some details but my main claim that u must of learnt how to read and write In an English speaking country was correct.

You never loose the accent where you grew up so u speak like a New Yorker.
You've may be fluent but Italians know your not Italian still, true?

The only people that can sound like locals in both countries are if they immigrated between the ages of about 9 to 13. Its like the golden age of tongues.
If you immigrate outside of these ages then you will always sound like one or the other

Anyway signora I hope your enjoying that part of the world and
Buona pasqua

Yes, Christ the King...
You're right about everything!

As to the accent....remember that I spoke my dialect with my parents and my husband...we're from the same hometown here (a VERY SMALL hometown, with its very own dialect)...so my accent with the Italian is hardly noticeable....but, yeah, there'll always be a bit of a "difference".

And do you know Mike Buongiorno?
He lived in the U.S. till the age of 14 and then his family moved back here...
So he spoke English without an accent
And he spoke Italian without an accent....
so you're right about that too.
You're very perceptive with languages.

Just, whatever you do, don't call me SIGNORA...
and none of that LEI business either! What nonsense.

Anche io ti auguro una buona Pasqua...
e anche a tua famiglia....

Going to cook a turkey on the charcoal grill.
Whole???

Maybe that's a dumb question....

I used to make chicken on the grill...
With all the spices and wrapped in aluminum foil on a very low flame.
With the cover closed.
Yummy.

Yes, whole. I can fit a 10-12 lb. bird in my Weber grill. I do not stuff it but I season the bird inside and out with Lawry's Seasoned Salt, but you could use any seasoning to your own liking. I set up my grill for indirect heating with coals on two sides and place a drip pan between to catch the drippings from the bird, no foil wrapping. I have a thermometer in my grill lid and I try to maintain about 275 - 300 degrees. It takes about 3 hours to complete. After about an hour and a half, I start basting the bird with a stick of butter. This really makes the outer skin brown and crispy. It is very good.

I remember one time, my ex father-in-law and I were cooking one for Thanksgiving. My ex-wife left us in charge while she made a run to visit a friend. I will admit at that time there were a few beers involved but anyway, when the bird began to get brown we decided to taste test it. By the time my ex-wife got back he and I had eaten nearly the whole bird. We were in soooo much trouble over that incident.

It looks delicious WIP.
And I even have a BBQ made like that...haven't BBQd in ages.
Will try it with a big chicken....Turkeys are not easy to find around here.

You control the heat by pushing the coal to one side?
I used to use a gas BBQ back when...it's been years.
They have automatic controls, as you know. I'd put the heat to very low.

Glad you sent the picture!
