Worship and Fitness:
Romans 12:1 (KJV)–I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)–Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
These are two of my favorite things because of the emotional high. The overwhelming power of the Spirit during a powerful worship service is similar to a great pump during an intense workout. Regardless of your fitness goals capitalizing on this power emotion overload is great way to glorify God, and completely transform your physique.
The keys to success in fitness start with a sound plan of action. For those of you considered rookies to fitness the goal is keep everything simple. This makes nearly impossible to fail. The first realistic question to ask is whether your chosen plan is a good fit for your hectic life. Juggling work, family, and social events is maddening at times. How does a reasonable person find time for the gym? Time management is crucial to squeeze in a light workout or a brisk jog between soccer practice and a band recital. Sometimes getting to the gym isn’t realistic so be prepared to create a routine for the home. Most of the time rookies start out with several new exercises on strange machines. It’s hard enough to master one new technique, why try a bundle. Things like the push-up, the sit-up, a standing squat, and a few lunges over time will chisel your body just as effective as an hour in gym.
So you’re ready to get fit. Now you must overcome the mind. The human brain is very complicated and creates a string of reasons to keep you from the gym. However, the brain works in a simple fashion. The hardest part of overcoming the mental aspects of fitness fades with time. There is no perfect time to start so simply put—get the gym.
Motivation is a mountain of a problem for even the finest athletes. Like all things over time your will power may be weakened and your good desires dreams. I once read in a magazine of a professional athlete who pictured himself as a machine during his intense workouts. It really doesn’t matter who or what inspires you as long as it keeps you going and doesn’t go against the Word of God. Music, professional athletes, heroes, family; use whatever reason keeps you going.
The motivation in this worship combined fitness program is the power of the Spirit. Listening to your favorite worship song that gives you Goosebumps is a great way to ignite the fire. That beautiful energy floods your body with an intense rush similar to caffeine. It’s a focus on the most powerful energy in the universe and it will give you strength. This is because most strength is more than the ripped muscle—it’s mental. Remember those stories where you read about a tiny mother lifting a car? This is the possible result of flooding the mind to achieve the impossible. This is the basic model to build your workout routine into an intense spiritual worship service...
