If you don't have a child, imagine someone else close to you. If you knew that your child was going to Hell, and you knew that you could give up your own place in Heaven in exchange for theirs, would you do it? Would you give an eternity in Hell to save your child from it?

I have children, but it is not possible so why dwell on it?

.
There's no such provision in the Bible for such exchange.

And children below accountable age will not go to hell ... at least that's what I believe !

would you give your soul for your child's?

it is not possible. it cannot be done. no where in God's word is there mention of this, individual responsibility is individual responsibility. I also believe in an age of accountability, i don'tn know where that line is... but the God i know and love i cannot fathom condemning babes to hell or the mentally infirm etc who do not understand. this is also not mentioned in the bible, but it is something i feel is right, but this is just my feeling, not biblical truth.

Well since it is actually impossible, as you and others have said, and that it is not discussed in scriptures, then what's the point for discussing a hypothetical that is impossible to happen? :shrug

Just saying.....

If I had to give
my life for
either of
my children
I would.

I do firmly believe there is biblical support for the fact that babies, little children and the mentally disabled do not go to hell.

Romans 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

Paul is speaking personally here. He said that he was once alive without the law, but when the commandment came, when he was able to comprehend what God's commandments are, then his sin nature awoke, as he rebelled against the commandments and therefore spiritually died. I cannot see this text making sense in any other way, but that, as innocent children, we are spiritually alive, but once we comprehend God's commandments, our sinful natures hold true and we then spiritually die.

Hey Brian, I agree 100%, but giving up one's life is not giving up the soul.

Jesus gave His life, but His soul was "preserved" for lack of a better word.

So, hypothetically speaking, I will take the selfish route and say, No. :biggrin (soul-trading is an impossibility anyway)

Any Bible student would know if it's not possible for man to destroy the soul, it stands to reason man cannot trade places with another person's soul.

In what way could you give your soul for your child's? Certainly you could give your physical life but not your soul.

Firstly, salvation is only by faith in Christ Jesus so even if you could forfite your own salvation which you would have to do by leaving off faith in Christ, your salvation would only be lost, it would not " gain" a postion for your child's soul.

salvation is not a situation where God has given our only so many raffle tickets and you can give yours to another.

Secondly if you could give up your salvation and would, that would in no way guarentee, cause, help the faith of your child to come to Christ for their own salvation.

However it may hinder their faith in MANY ways. And thinking that you are going to do something immoral which you figure will cause you to go to hell but help your child believe wont work either, the child would learn from the bad example and repeat it instead of walking the other way.

What's to stop you asking God on the day of judgement to allow your child to take your place in Heaven, and to allow you to take your child's place in Hell? I don't know of any verses that say God would necessarily say no.

There is salvation only in Jesus Christ by faith.- Not by trade off's.

If what you are suggesting could be possible that means that we ourselves are a way of salvation.

Yeah, "good luck" with that one, Mark. If we are going to play proof text hopscotch, where in the Bible is there proof that we will even have the chance to ask God any questions while the unsaved are being judged? Show us where it is possible to bargain away one's soul, especially after one has been spared the final judgment and risk of the "second death"?

Why did Jesus say this?

John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

Why are we even entertaining hypotheticals in an Apologetics situation?

John 14:6: Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Pretty straightforward. There will be no 'trade-offs' or swapping of peoples' souls. Come to God through Jesus Christ or don't come at all. Trust God to judge the small children justly. (or God would not be God)

In what situation would that happen? And kids can't go to hell either.
wheres that in the bible? many of teens may be in hell. i knew what sin was at the age of seven as i was a jw.

the sins are the same as the rest of the christian churches for the most part.
