John sees a book that God is holding in His right hand. This book has writing in it and John sees on the back side of the book it is sealed with seven seals. There are two books mentioned in Revelation 20:12 that have been written in since the foundation of the world. One is the book of life that records everyone’s works or deeds and the other book is the Lambs book of life. Those whose names are found in the Lamb’s book of life will not stand in Gods great white throne judgment for they have already been judged by their faith in Christ and are part of the first resurrection, 1 Corinthians 15:51-55; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
Those whose names are not found written in the Lambs book of life will be part of the second resurrection, Revelation 20:6. They will stand before God in his great white throne judgment as He opens the book of works and those who stand before him will be judged by their works whether they be good works or evil works, Matthew 7:21-23; 2 Peter 2:21. These works have also been written down from the foundation of the world. Death and hell, which means the grave, are now cast into the lake of fire with Satan, the beast and the false prophet.
John sees a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice saying who is worthy to open the books and loose the seven seals. John wept because there was found no one worthy to open the book and the seals. One of the elders in heaven came to John during this vision and told John not to weep as Jesus who overcame the world was the only one worthy of opening the book and to release the seven seals.
The seven horns and seven eyes have already been explained in this verse as being the seven spirits of God found in Isaiah 11:2. When Jesus took the book out of the right hand of God the Cherubim, Seraphim and the twenty four elders bowed down before Jesus as they had harps of worship and golden vials of incense which are the prayers of the saints.
The prayers of the saints are those whose spirit is reserved in heaven, Ecclesiastes 12:7, that are under the altar in heaven who have already died a martyr’s death. They are told to wait patiently till those who are yet alive will also be persecuted to death for keeping the witness and testimony of Jesus, Revelation 6:10. they have to wait until the end of days an in the end will all be joined together as now begins the timing of the martyred saints blood to be avenged, Revelation 6:10 with the opening of the seven seals.
They sang a new song in heaven as Jesus was revealed to be the only one worthy of opening the seven seals as he redeemed everyone, Jew and Gentile, all over the world by his blood that all who come to him are made to become kings and priest with Jesus, 1 Peter 2:9, and will reign with him forever.
