Hi all,

My friends and I have recently createda series of videos (an animated novel) detailing our take on the end times. It's not particularly long (roughly 28 minutes).

In the first video America is destroyed and a family who always believed they'd be raptured before the trouble started has to come to terms with being "left behind". I'm curious to hear what others think of our interpretation.

Except a pre tribulation rapture is not found in the NT.

I would state Rev 11 is a sign that can't be mistaken. The final last warning before the great tribulation enters this world. For then the angel of the abyss and his false prophet are in the world. The one who kills the two witnesses and is destroyed by Jesus and the armies of heaven that follow Him. Rev 16:15

It's amazing to me that people still believe the pre-trib Rapture nonsense, when the bible so plainly teaches us otherwise.

Right here in the "Rapture" scripture is the truth that Paul is describing the coming of the Lord.

He has come once already and died on the cross.
so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. Hebrews 9:28

This coming of the Lord described in 1 Thessalonians 4 is the second coming, also known as the Day of the Lord.

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:2

The Day of the Lord is the second coming of Jesus Christ, in which He gathers His people together at the resurrection/rapture and destroys the antichrist.

Paul clarifies this to these Thessalonians who thought, like so many today that the Day of the Lord or Day of Jesus Christ could somehow come without them knowing.

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8

This "Parousia", Coming of the Lord is where the Church is gathered [resurrected/raptured] and the antichrist is destroyed by the brightness of His coming.

The antichrist comes first and is revealed in the temple and continues for 3 1/2 years, and is destroyed by the brightness of His coming, when Jesus returns on the last Day to gather [resurrection/rapture] His people and destroy remove and destroy the wicked on the Day of the Lord.

Hi Randy, I agree with you. I'm not quite sure if you're saying you thought the video was promoting pre-trib rapture or if you're comments are in support of the video taking a post-trib stance.

Admin here,

This video got past me.. This site is not for videos .. this site is for discussion between members.. Lets not do it again...A friendly warning.. i hope you listen too.

Hi reba. I'm definitely interested in discussion between members. I thought the video would be helpful in presenting a practical scenario for discussion. The idea of people being "left behind" is pretty common, but what will that look like in practical reality and what would the alternative look like, too!

Anyway, thanks for the friendly (if somewhat ominous) heads up on videos. I hear you.

I think it totally misses the teaching of scripture.
The "rapture" comes when Jesus comes at the end of the age.
There is no "pre-tribulation rapture." That's a fantasy, propagated by John Darby in the 1830's, that caught on with immature Christians because it was an exciting and new "wind of doctrine."
Jesus told His disciples that when God does what is none of their business.
It's none of our business either.
All the "Rapture" stuff is a distraction from what Jesus told His disciples to do: Get filled with the Holy Ghost and be His witnesses to the end of the world. THEN and ONLY THEN the end will come.
So get cracking on letting your light so shine and quit letting yourself get side tracked by imaginary events that Jesus said were none of your business.

2 cents from a 70+ year old who's been around the block a few times.

I can't help but feel like there's a misunderstanding here. The video is not supporting a pre-trib rapture message (I'm wondering if you watched it or if you're going based on the "left behind" phrase). Oh wait, I see. It was probably my introduction. The video takes a post-trib rapture position and details a situation where a family who had always believed in pre-trib rapture must now come to terms with facing the alternative that they never wanted to face before.

I also agree with your comments about preaching the gospel. That's why my friends and I made the video. Although it's a work of fiction, we believe it does a pretty good job of describing how prophecy is likely to play out in the coming years. While prophecy is not the cornerstone, I believe it is a part of the good news and that even if the prophecy of Revelation is still decades away from being fulfilled, it still contains valuable lessons for Christians today. As the angel in Revelation 19 says, "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy".

Instead of making videos, try feeding the homeless; getting them bottles of water, clean socks, toilet articles, etc.
They'll appreciate it a lot more than your opinion of what Revelation means.
And Revelation is technically "prophesy;" it's apocalyptic. They're different.
The best way to preach the gospel is to not necessarily to use words. Show them the love of God often enough and they'll ask. Showing mercy also earns the right to speak. (Don't assume you have it. It's something they have to give, not for you to take.)

Why not do both?

The best way to preach the gospel is to not necessarily to use words.

I wonder if I'm the only one appreciating the irony here. Anyway, a video, by definition, uses more than words so, yeah...

By the way, what did you think about my comments attempting to sort out the misunderstanding you had about the content of the video, in that it is promoting a post-trib stance rather than a pre-trip position?

You missed the point.
The best way to preach the Gospel is to live the Gospel.
Anybody can preach the Gospel. It takes a Christian to live it.

Since I do not ascribe to either a "pre-trib" or a "post-trib" "rapture", the "rapture teaching being a 19th century invention, I didn't pay any attention. Sorry. :shrug

Hmm, that's interesting. I see heaps of evidence, both in prophecy and in practical reality to suggest that there's a lot of prophecy yet to be fulfilled and part of that will be the return of Jesus as described in Matthew 24 and 1 Corinthians 15. It's a very exciting time to be alive!

So what?
When you start talking to the average un-saved person about the "rapture" and tribulation, he thinks your nuts.
GOD fulfills prophesy. It's HIS job, not yours.
What is it that YOU are supposed to be doing? It's NOT trying to figure out when God is going to do what. That's none of your business.

John 5:28-29 (NKJV)… the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

Don't be a fan. Be a follower. That requires taking up your cross daily and doing the "good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." (Eph 2:10 RSV)

Don't get distracted by sensationalism.

Watching and being prepared is part of being faithful. Mark 13:37.

Amen Brother.

Warning against false teachers, who deny the return of Jesus Christ coming with His saint's, to gather His people at the resurrection/rapture is good thing to be doing brother, since there are those who deny this truth from the scriptures, some even teach that the resurrection is past.

14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:14-19

Thee "end" is going to be exactly how Jesus describes it in Matt. 25. Any other angle is just a fantasy story. Your story doesn't even come close to "lining up" with Matt. 25. Not even remotely.

Sorry.

Thanks for the backup, JLB. It was getting a bit lonely with just Jim and me.

Can you be more specific? Bear in mind that the story is only part 1 of a 25 chapter animated novel.
