What was Jesus' response when His disciples rebuked people for bringing their little children to Jesus?

Matthew 19:13-14 ---> "Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, 'Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.'"

Do not be like the disciples who rebuked Jesus..
Children are self centered, ignorant, unloving, and untrained. Are those the childlike features Jesus said are to be shown by those who come to Him in trust?

Do not speak beyond the text with your imagination when you try to answer.

It indeed is our fault if we learn something that is incorrect. That is why mindless chatting and sharing is a sin.

Jesus stated in Matt. 12:36 "Every idle word" will require an account thereof.
Well Jacob,,,,
Most of the earth will be going to hell then.
What is idle talk to you?
Do you feel the time we spend here is totally useless?
I don't have a lot of time, and yet I believe my time here is very important.

Also, it would be nice if you reread Matthew 12:33-37
It never ceases to amaze me how we take one sentence and do not use context to understand what it is saying.

It doesn't say every IDLE word....it says every careless word...there's a big difference.

Jesus said that it matters not what goes into the mouth but what comes out of the mouth.
Both mean the same....
What could it mean that Jesus would spend time speaking of this more than once??

It's certainly not what you think. Or maybe I've misunderstood you.

You actually have the same amount of time as other people. Use it to glorify God, rather than conducting unnecessary defense of minor feelings. Okay?

KJV says "Every idle word." Does that concern you? Why would it?

The fruit of chatting and intuitive sharing is idle talk. Peter instructs in his 1:4:11, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God." That excludes chatting and imagining things intuitively.

In fact, specifying "Man" there widely excludes women speaking any oracles of God. Certainly not by their own effort.

Let us praise God for His Word.

You sound upset so I won't reply.
Maybe my post just didn't sound right.
I will be happy to discuss this with you but not if I've upset you.

I just want to say that you should please reply to my actual post.
You don't know if I have the same time as others....
You don't know if I use it to glorify God.
Just as I know nothing of you....

If you don't care to "chat" that's fine.
Do what God tells you to do.

You have the same 24 hrs. per day as all other people. Strangely, you cannot admit this.

I am never upset over the kinds of things spoken here. You again compulsively read in between the lines. Lol. Even if I were "upset" it should not so easily be noticed by a real Christian, such that she comment on it. Lol. Remember, Love covers a multitude of sins. Does yours?

Paying the price.
To become like Jesus is to be despised by sinners as a reminder of what could be. Giving up the world is a real thing, not going ahead with others into self indulgence.

Choice is there, free will. I witnessed to a guy once who believed Jesus but would not pay the price.

But the price is life for death, love for envy and hatred, reality for delusion. If one has eyes to see no comparison at all.

God bless you
Right.
In fact, Jesus did say that there's a price to be paid and to know this before declaring that we want to be a disciple of His.

Luke 14:27-30
27“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
28“For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?
29“Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him,
30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’

Yes,,,I do have the same 24 hours.
Whether they belong to me or not...you, Jacob, cannot know.

We were discussing idle talk and whether or not what we do here is idle talk.

Your time belongs to God, until you waste it.

KJV does say "Every Idle Word." Modern translations change much of the text to soften it for milque toast church people

Yes, Calvinist are a sorry lot. I pity them.

Jesus did not instruct anyone to let His example of children inheriting the Kingdom of Heaven mean whatever they want it to mean. He limited the example of children to mean only humility and simple acceptance of Jesus.

Do not read your own thoughts into the text of Scripture.
What a contradiction.
You have your own thoughts on Calvinism.
Maybe you don't know, but they belong to God, not you.
It's his place to judge them, not you.
And where is your humility on this matter?
You're full of contradictions.
You need to get your act together.

Yes, continue to pray for me. Thanks so much.

Calvinists in their endless exegesis of the Text of Scripture which produces TULIP are no different than the Pharisees who created their Talmud, and then equated it with the Word of God.

Yes, the KJV says IDLE in Matthew 12:36
The NASB says CARELESS.
Another bible says OUT OF PLACE
YLT says IDLE

Idle could mean lacking worth and in vain.
I like careless better because it helps to understand these verses in context.

If you read Matthew 12:34-37 the context is that Jesus is speaking about how the words that come out of our mouths
reflect what is in the heart. A good man will say what is good and an evil man will say what is evil....one makes life to be easier
and the other makes life to be difficult. One will make another person feel good about life...and the other will make a person feel badly about life.

We can say that we sin by what comes out of our mouth.
One day we will render an account of our words....
IOW...why did we make others feel badly with our words?

Words are powerful and can even cause change.
We should be careful with our words.

You must feel good knowing you are better than other people.

It is good you apparently do see that idle talk is not in service to God.

Bless your faithfulness to His Word.

Agreed, they are an organized group. Creeds and such.

This false. Calvinists admit their creeds are fallible. That is more and R.C. things with scripture and tradition.
So obvious to observe in Calvinists and Pharisees the common recalcitrance to the work of Christ unto all of mankind. Nothing new under the sun.

This conversation over does free will exist in our walk with Jesus, suggests that when people think through a subject, they can miss an essential part of the story and therefore get it all wrong.

A pastor who shares Jesus but does not love, is like a clanging symbol that does not chime, worthless. Some love the idea of belonging so the world will be doomed and burnt to a cinder, because the hatred they bear for others is hidden below the cloak of belief.

Jesus talking about us being yoked to Him, taking His yoke upon us, only makes sense if we can choose this behaviour and it is part of discipleship. The beatitudes, blessed are the poor in heart, blessed are the meek, blessed are the pure in heart, blessed when you thirst after righteousness, when you apply mercy etc. These are all choices of attitude and will, and lay the foundation of Jesus's approach to us, and our attitude to Him and others. To reject this or claim it has no importance is to miss faith and salvation, the heart of who Jesus is.

But then when Jesus said the pure in heart will see God, He is openning the door to heart honesty and openness, without which we know nothing. It is ironic, how some folk do not understand the words I am sharing here, because they claim they can see but are blind, to know the things of God, but their heart is not to do Gods will.

God bless you

I remember a believer who claimed being yoked to Jesus was legalism. It is like saying you cuddle your children or your wife because a book tells you to, not because you love them. It is true some people do need to be told how to show affection, but to think from ones heart you do not want to follow, listen and worship Jesus, means one does not know Him, and is not one of His sheep. I remember when I pointed out these points, the next day they changed their words, because it sounded bad, but the emotional reality had been spoken.

It seems some want to just put others right and use christianity as their method, but are not actually part of the Kingdom, and do not know really what else to do.

How do you follow Jesus? How about if you share three real things you do to emulate Him.

Thanks so much for sharing the importance and power of both speaking of following Jesus, and then giving the testimony of following Jesus. This is great encouragement to those here who do not quite know how.

Regards.

I think it is quite possible to seek the Lord. The Scripture says, "Seek the Lord while He may be found". and, "If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me". Because the Scripture is 100 percent true, then if it is impossible to seek the Lord, He wouldn't have instructed us in Scripture to seek Him.

Also, in Hebrews it says, "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts". What this means is that the Holy Spirit has a voice, and He speaks through the gospel, so if someone shares the gospel, then the person he shares it with should not harden his heart against it.

What have you found of the Lord in addition to what is verbalized in Scripture?

Try to remember there is more to consider upon this than the de facto rehashment of saying nothing of God contradicts His transmitted Word, and that His Scripture is complete for us today. In fact, God both seals up parts of His Word, as unto Daniel, and confounds to many the meaning of it, such as the various Parables spoken to the Jewish multitudes. As well, God does parlay parts of His demand for righteousness, such as when Paul stated to the Athenian Greeks God had until then "winked" at their idolatry.

Best regards.
