So now you are interested in context, well don’t forget these two verses
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Paul is teaching them not to continue in sin.
Amen to that, and he follows it up with the means of killing the old man and being raised with Him to walk in newness of life.
They way he teaches them is this —
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:12-14
Thank God for the exhortations of faithful men !
If by getting dunked in water, we are somehow automatically dead to sin, because our physical body that contains sin is done away with, why does Paul give us these instructions?
Exhortations are never bad for anyone.
He is giving the "how to" to the readers of Romans 6.
BTW, that dunking in water is our immersion into Christ and into His death, burial , and resurrection.
Like Rom. 6: 5 says..."For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:"
I can attest to the truth of that.

Given only those two options, my body is glorified, as the body of sin was destroyed at my water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of my past sins, (Rom 6:6)...thanks be to God.
The vessel I am transported around in now is, like Paul's in Gal 2:20...."I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

I wish you could realize the glory and power of God and His ability to do much more than you seem to give him credit for.

If you're glorified, then your body won't die. But we know that is not true. You will die.

Your conflation of what God has done for us and where we are in our experience is leading you into further error.

I wish you would quit lying to yourself.

Amen to that, and he follows it up with the means of killing the old man and being raised with Him to walk in newness of life.

We walk in the newness of life by being led by the Spirit, in which we live our life by the power of the Spirit who dwells within us.

Here are the two choices each born again Christian must choose to make each and every day.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:12-14

  1. For if you live according to the flesh you will die;
  2. but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Didn't Paul write..."Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed," (1 Cor 15:51) ?
Didn't Jesus say..."He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal." ?
I already died, when I was "immersed" into Christ and into His death.
I no longer define "life" by the condition of the vessel.

And thankfully, it is possible to make the right choice every single day.

There is an awful lot of people here that like to talk about sin. They are still captivated by it, they are not yet free from it.
Life in Christ is black or white.
Either man does what God commands, or they don't.
Personally, I like to talk about freedom from sin.
God has manifested Himself through the life and death and resurrection of His Son, in order to conquer sin.
And I rejoice in that conquest because in Him, I can take part in that victory.

Yes Paul wrote it. It speaks to a future event. At present you possess a body of sin.

Yes Jesus said it. He is speaking of eternal life. So?

You're not paying attention. As I said, you're conflating what Christ has done for you with your present experience.

Your a sinner like all of us.

Nope, just a "body".
When it was called a "body of sin", it was killed and buried and resurrected with Christ to walk in newness of life. (Rom 6:6)
I am a new creature now...thanks be to God !

This is in the context of your comment stating that I will die, but I have already died and started my "eternal life".
This vessel I ride around in may turn to dust, but I don't count my vessel as "me"
Just as I don't consider my Ford van "me".

Nope, Christ conquered sin while in the flesh, and now, those in Him can take part in that victory.

Keep lying to yourself. Keep drinking that purple kool-aide.

If I am believing a lie, why has that lie freed me from sinning?
Satan is the father of lies, so lies can't keep a man free from sin.
Lies can't produce a new creature.
Lies don't allow a man to walk in the light instead of in the darkness.
Lies don't allow a man to walk in the Spirit instead of in the "flesh".
Lies don't produce real hope.

It hasn't. That's just the affect of the purple kool-aide.

Quantrill
Do you believe Jesus conquered sin while in the flesh?
Do you believe that those baptized into Christ are actually "in Christ"?
Do you believe there is no sin in Christ?
Do you think the Holy Ghost (given to those that turn from sin), has any power at all?

Are you operating solo or are there more people living perfectly sinless as you? Is there a church you are affiliated with?

There are more like me, and we use the biblical title of "The Church By Christ Jesus (Eph 3:21)".

Jesus died for our sins.
Do you think it right to continue to sin after such a selfless act for our benefit?

Actually, he has been talking about freedom from sin. I see both sides of this debate making excellent points, mixed with a few minor mistakes, lol.

We do know that any theological position or doctrine has to be in agreement with the entirety of scripture. So let's first examine a few scriptures which may or may not apply to the topic but I think they do so post them. Here we go.

...on earth as it is in heaven... He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father...whatever is not done in Faith is sin...

Have you ever prayed, on earth as it is in heaven? Heaven is sinless within. The conclusion has to be that it's plausible to not sin or else you don't believe the word of God. It is possible to make it through a day without sinning, lol. All you have to do is don't be a punk. Can't you do that? I can. I am not without sin but I have sinned less today than yesterday.

Any deeds of the flesh are works. There are good works and bad works. Just because we're born again doesn't mean we can go on with a sinful lifestyle. So walk in Faith, and sin not.

If Jesus did it for 33 years then you should be able to handle 34 years, right? I mean, all those things Jesus did you will do and more, right? Or do you not believe that?
