Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
I would think that Philip taught the eunuch to repent and be baptized just as Peter taught on the day of Pentecost.
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

What more do we need for salvation other then faith and belief. We definitely do not work for it nor can we save ourselves without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Yes baptismal regeneration
There are five requirements to Salvation and Mary is not found in any of these requirements.
1. Confession - Acts 2:21; Romans 10:9, 10
2. Repentance - Mark 1:14, 15
3. Faith - John 3:14-18
4. Regeneration - John 3:3-8
5. Holy Scripture - 2 Timothy 3:15
How do you explain baptismal regeneration that is the baptism of Christ, not John's baptism that was for repentance only preparing your way to the Lord.
I have never heard of "the baptism of Christ".
What is it?
Start at Acts 19:1-6 as the baptism of Christ is for the receiving of the Holy Spirit. It's different than John's water baptism that was only for repentance preparing one for the way of the Lord to come as the Holy Spirit was not ushered down until Christ ascended up to the father, John 14:26.
Ephesians 2:8 Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus and not by works, which would make water baptism a work towards repentance. John said I must decrease and Jesus increase. John's water baptism was only for repentance as being prepared for the coming of the Lord as the water represented the washing away of sin, or as John put it "prepare ye the way of the Lord". It is not clear in scripture that Jesus ever baptized anyone in water even though He first came to John's water baptism as a fulfillment of prophecy as He had to identify with humanity even though He had no sin. This was the beginning of Christ ministry as the Holy Spirit fell down on Him that day as God gave Him full power and authority here on earth and there after Jesus went about teaching the disciples as it was not Jesus who the Pharisees heard that He baptized more than John did, John 4:1-3 but His disciples baptizing others in water for remission of sin after the death of John the Baptist as all together they would have baptized others in water for the remission of sin then John could at one time. Jesus could not baptize anyone in the Holy Spirit until the day of Pentecost after He ascended up to the Father and the Father sent down the indwelling Holy Spirit, Acts 2.
John 3:5 never mentions the word baptize, but says only by being born of water and spirit, which means water as living water, word of God, that no one can enter into the kingdom of God unless they are Spiritually renewed (born again) by the hearing of the word, which is Christ Jesus and by the Holy Spirit that came on them in the OT and indwells us in the NT. Many do read into the passage a preconceived idea or theology, but baptism is never mentioned in this verse. God's word is living water as described in John 4:4-26; 7:37-39; 12:44-50; Ephesians 5:26; 1 John 5:5-8; Jeremiah 17:13; Zechariah 14:8, 9; Rev 21:6-8; Ezekiel 47:22.
If salvation came by actual immersion in water Jesus clearly could have simply stated, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is baptized by being immersed in water and born of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” Further, if Jesus had made such a statement, He would have contradicted numerous other Bible passages that make it clear that salvation is by faith (John 3:16; John 3:36; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).
There is the case of the thief on the cross who repented, the women who was to be stoned for adultery, the women at the well, death bed confessions and even those who are incapacitated that can not be immersed in water. Does this mean they are not saved or born again, no. It means that no dirty river water is going to save anyone, but that it is only a symbol of repentance like that of John the baptist who called those to repent first. There is nothing wrong with being dunked in water, but know that it is only an outward appearance to others of what has already taken place Spiritually within you when you repented, accepted Jesus and was indwelled with the Holy Spirit.
I had only heard of the gift of the Holy Ghost being called the "baptism of the Holy Spirit", or, "Spirit baptism" before now.
And the only "works" Paul's writings precluded, were the works of the Law.
Circumcision, feast keeping, temple worship, priesthood, etc.
Not repentance from sin, water baptism, enduring faithful to the end, etc.
It usually is called the baptism of the Holy Spirit like that in Luke 3:16; Acts 2:1-4. John's water baptism was for repentance only, prepare ye the way of the Lord as the Holy Spirit was not yet sent down from heaven. It has nothing to do with the works of the law. When we are Spiritually born again from above we are also given the promise of the Holy Spirit to come and dwell within us, John 3-5-7. The word water in John 3:5 is not actual water, but water being the living word of God as faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17.
If you compare John 3:5 with 1 John 5:5-8 water means word as in the word being the living water (John 4:9-15) as in the Father, the word (living water Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. The three that bear witness is Holy Spirit, Gods living word, and the blood of Jesus who made atonement for sin that we can be reconciled back to the Father.
Everything from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 is all Gods word and Holy Spirit dwelling in or falling on and come to Earth in the form of a man in Christ Jesus. It's all Gods grace freely given to all who will believe in that faith that is Christ Jesus as He spoke Gods word (John 12:44-50 living water) and the Prophets and Apostles wrote and testified of what Jesus taught verbally.
It's Gods word that we are made righteous through Him, sanctified, justified and made Holy before Him. No dirty river water can save us, but is only an outward appearance to others that we have been washed clean (made righteous before God) by the blood of the Lamb and the renewing through the Holy Spirit.
There are around 1526 instances of living water in the Bible. Here are some verses on living water being the word. John 4:4-26; 7:37-39; 12:44-50; Ephesians 5:26; 1 John 5:5-8; Jeremiah 17:13; Zechariah 14:8, 9; Rev 21:6-8; Ezekiel 47:22
You seem not to realize that John's baptism unto repentance morphed into baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
Remitting sins, just as John's baptism did. (Luke 3:3)
The baptism of the Holy Spirit (usually) comes after a true turn from sin and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins...just as Peter laid out in Acts 2:38.

BTW, John's baptism was for more than just repentance from sin.
It was also for the remission of sins.
"John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins." (Mark 1:4)
"And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;" (Luke 3:3)
Water baptism for the remission of sins in now done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Acts 2:38)
You said you never heard of the baptism of Christ and in post #10 I explained it to you, but apparently you have not studied this for yourself.
I see no morphing but transferring John's water baptism into the new creation in the baptism Christ in which we are now indwelled and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise unto the day of redemption, Ephesians 4:30. Repentance is that of remission of sin as we confess we are sinners in need of a Savior as in John saying in his baptisms, "prepare ye the way of the Lord". John could not baptize in the name of Jesus, nor for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit for neither one had come yet.
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

John's baptism was literal, but yet symbolic for cleansing after one repented of their sin. Notice in Mark 1:8 I have baptized you with (actual) water, but he (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. (Not water, but baptize you with the Holy Spirit after you have repented and made clean again through the washing of the word as you become a new creation in Christ. (parenthesis are added by me in Mark 1:8 for explaination)
Jesus never baptized anyone in literal water that we know of and also instructed the Disciples to wait upon the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, Acts chapter 1, and then commissioned them to go out preaching the Gospel (word/living water) and to baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:16-20.
Being born from above means being born from the heavenly word of God, not dirty river water. When Jesus was baptized by John it was for the fulfillment of Messiah come as the Holy Spirit fell down on Him. Jesus had no need of being baptized in water for repentance or the remission of sin, but had to associate with humanity in order to fulfill prophecy.

Peter, the apostles and their successors have the same authority, power, and mission! Jn 20:21 as my father sent me, even so send I you!
The apostles are Christ’s successors!
They have authority to send others as well, apostle means one who is sent!
Therefore the apostles have authority to send more apostles or successors!
Apostolic succession!
The nations still need to be taught, disciples still need to be baptized and the church the new covenant kingdom of christ still needs to be governed!

The apostles teaching is Christ’s teaching, Christ and His church are one! Acts 9:4
Christian rule of faith is not the Bible alone! But the doctrine of the apostles! Acts 2:42
Jesus Christ continues HIS ministry in His new covenant church thru Peter, the apostles, and their successors with the same mission, power, and authority!

As it was literal, there is no seed for symbolism.
In the bible, the gift (baptism) of the Holy Spirit happens after water baptism in every case but Cornelius'.
He was a special case to let the Jews know that God had accepted the Gentiles into the body of Christ.
They are two different baptisms that work in tandem.
Jesus' disciples baptized folks though.
If the Lord was against the act, as you seem to be putting forth, why did He allow His apostles to do it?
And why do you minimalize it?

I wouldn't call the Holy Spirit a reward as the Holy Spirit is our gift from God as our teacher of the Spiritual things of God that remains only a mystery to those who have not the indwelling, John 14:15-26; Acts 2:38-39.
Water baptism is only an outward appearance of that which is happening Spiritually within you. It shows others that you have repented for the remission of your sins and there is nothing wrong with that, but water can not save us.
Repentance: the action of repenting
Remission: the cancellation of a debt, charge, penalty
There are two different baptism's as one is that of John's for repentance and the other the baptism of Christ for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
I never said the Lord was against literal water baptism, but it was only for repentance as Christ nor the Holy Spirit had come yet in John's day until Christ came. Read Romans 10:5-21.
