    Should Christians rethink Hell?

According to the Bible, we are saved from eternal death and given eternal life. Romans 6:23, we are saved from perishing and given eternal life. John 3:16, we are saved from being totally destroyed, both body and soul. Matthew 10:28

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

According to the Bible, the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. According to the Bible, we are saved from eternal death and given eternal life. Romans 6:23 According to the Bible, whosoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal...

Scripture, please. Because I have John 3:16 and Romans 6:28 that says that it is, Toby.

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

(Edited, ToS 2.4 insulting comment. Obadiah) If those without Jesus Christ perish, then they need salvation in Jesus Christ in order to not perish, to have eternal life. Which (not coincidentally) is exactly what the Bible says "that whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Thanks, I agree. There will be no more death, or mourning, or crying, or pain. This would not be the case if over half of the people were in hell crying out in pain, would it?

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I see. So you didn't mean to say that there is nothing in scripture about anyone ceasing to exist. Did you mean to say that you can't accept the Bible verses that say that the wicked will be no more? I mean, the Bible clearly states that the wicked will be no more, one is free to accept that or...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8 Your claim was that there is nothing in scripture about anyone ceasing to exist. Psalm 37:10 specifically says the wicked will be no more.

I don't know how you can claim that. Psalm 37:10 says clearly "A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found."

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I think I've said all that I need to. I am really enjoying the discussion, but maybe I should do other things. I think the Scriptural support is there for the destruction of the wicked (Psalm 37:10, and others) and for immortality for the saved (2 Tim 1:10 and others), so I don't need to say...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

But the question was "How do you reconcile it with your above post?" post being "But their condition is said to be spiritual death - permanent separation from God." If at death the spirit returns to God, but death is said to be separation from God...How do these ideas reconcile?

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

FreeGrace, I want to ask you this in order to help you. I don't mean any disrespect by this at all. When you were attempting to convince me that olethros didn't mean destruction, why did you use a definition that included the word "destruction"? It would probably be better for your argument if...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Thanks Freegrace, I'm not sure why you are saying that there is nothing in the definition of olethros to indicate cessation of existence. "Destroy" and "Death" both indicate cessation of existence. Here is 2 Thessalonians 1:9 again, so that you can see that the verse doesn't say anything about...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Thanks FreeGrace. I know that you understand "destroy" differently than I do. What can I say to that? I use the regular dictionary definition of "destroy", and I believe that I have given you that definition as well. Concerning Matt 25:46, and Rev 20:10, neither verse actually says that the lost...

    NIV Bible

Hi Out, :wave I went to the link, and it says "the King James Bible (KJV) is the True Word of God." I think that is not entirely correct. The Bible in the original languages should be be called "the true word of God". The KJV is a translation of "the true word of God".

    NIV Bible

I can understand the KJV, I've read that. I've also read the NIV, and I am currently reading the OT in the ESV, and the NT in Greek. (Because I never learned to read in Hebrew) I think it would be best,if someone is overly concerned about translation issues, to learn the original languages and...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Good post, I agree that Jeremiah 31:38-40 settles the question. I wonder how the traditional view sees it. I've been reading the ESV lately, here's the passage in the ESV Bible: Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when the city shall be rebuilt for the LORD from the Tower of Hananel...

Thanks for your posts on my thread. The Jeremiah passage is interesting and I want to look into it more, I've never seen that one before. I can't believe I've never seen it. I really need to get into the OT more. Also thanks for your information on Luke's parable. I'd say all of this on the...
