    I like you POP.

    Eternal damnation

Toby carefully worded his objection, so he would be technically correct. The word "Annihilation" is not found in the Bible. But then again, NONE of us have EVER said that is. The word "Destruction" IS found in the Bible, and this is what the Bible says is the fate of the wicked.

    Eternal damnation

Yes, I believe this is important subject matter. Important enough to look into what the Bible actually says about it.

    Eternal damnation

"eternal damnation" isn't anywhere to be found in God's word. But the fact that those who reject the Son of God will perish IS found in God's word, in John 3:16 among other places. The destruction of the wicked is found in God's word, 2 Peter 2:1 is a handy example.

    Eternal damnation

We use the Biblical words "destruction" and "perish". Also death as in "the wages of sin is death". The Bible never once said that the wages of sin is eternal life in hell being tortured alive forever. Makes you think, doesn't it.

What do you mean by annihilation?

    Eternal damnation

[Response to deleted comment] You asked me to explain what the word "perish" means. "Perish" means to die. To no longer be alive. Perish also means to rot, as in "these tomatoes have perished", but that is not the context here. When a person perishes, they die. They do not remain alive and...

    Eternal damnation

I agree that the fire is eternal. That does not mean that those who are thrown alive into the eternal fire do not perish in it.
  9. TimothyW

    Eternal damnation

Sorry, no. Revelation 19:20 and 20:10 and 15 do not mean that perish doesn't mean annihilate (remember that "annihilate" is YOUR word, not mine. I believe the lost will perish, they will be destroyed, and they will be no more.) According to Psalm 37:20, the wicked will perish. According to Psalm...

    Eternal damnation

Can you show me the scripture that says "death for the unbeliever is separation from God and joined to Satan? Annihilationists often get charged with being too soft on sin. Those who believe in ECT say that if the sinner is merely annihilated (that is how they usually put it, merely, which...

    Thanks Chessman, excellent analysis.

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Sorry, I need to edit my post. The Bible clearly states that the wicked will be destroyed (Psalm 37:38) and will be no more (Psalm 37:10). The wicked will not enter heaven. (1 Corinthians 6:9) The wicked will not inherit eternal life (John 3:36) therefore they cannot possibly be tormented...

    Eternal damnation

Stop. Here is where you are disagreeing with scripture. Psalm 37:20 says "But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away." Scripture says that the wicked shall perish. You say that they don't suffer...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Possibly. "The devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever." Revelation 20:10 It is possible that all of the lost will be tossed in there with them and tormented day...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Oh, you are correct. I meant the Christian subset of universalism. I don't want to start to defend their position, as I do not agree with it and so I couldn't mount an adequate defense of it. Why don't we wait to see if there are any supporters of #3 who want to defend that view?
  16. TimothyW

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I also do not agree with the #3 position, but I believe that their position is that the cross makes eternal life possible for everyone. (Their texts include the words "for God so loved the world", and "So all will be saved") Again, this is not MY position, but I would like to hear from people...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I agree, I do not think that God will grant eternal life in heaven the wicked. I'm a Conditionalist, I believe that the Bible clearly states that the wicked will be destroyed and will be no more. The wicked will not enter heaven, but they also will not inherit eternal life in order to be...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

There are three views of hell commonly held by Christians. 1. The Eternal Torment View (Hell consists of eternal conscious torment) 2. Conditional Immortality (aka Annihilationism, Immortality is only granted to those who are in Christ, those who reject Christ ultimately perish) 3. Universalism...

Here is a recent Christian Radio Program about two of the three major views of Hell. http://www.premierchristianradio.com/Shows/Saturday/Unbelievable/Episodes/Should-Christians-rethink-Hell-Dr-Al-Mohler-Chris-Date-debate-the-traditional-conditionalist-view What do you think?

This is GREAT! That is the way to be. I wish I went to that church, even if they disagreed with me on every doctrine.
