    Since I don't drive a lot of miles per year, it may very well be 10 plus years before I reach the recommended 100k miles for the plugs. I think Escapes have regular plugs, but its possible that 10 years could make them a bit intransigent for the dealer. I shall ponder.

    I did my own maintenance when I was younger, but not anymore. The dealer puts in manufacturer recommended oil. Fortunately Ford doesn't seem use those "brilliant" things anymore.

    Wow. I had no idea those places charged that much. I get mine done at the dealer. About $50 for an oil change, tire rotation, car wash, fluid and battery check, plus general inspection. Plus they sometimes send a coupon for $10 less, or give me bonus points that improves some future price...

    Dr. Ross also made the point that even if global temp remained where it is now, the pole would still melt. The cause is all the soot deposited on it over the years absorbs sunlight better than clean snow/ice. There are things that can be done, but they must be well thought out.
