    Ancient Hebrew Calendar

Sabbatical Time Measurement I'd now like to highlight a unique aspect - the shabuwa (sevens) Earliest biblical calendar references go back to the book of Genesis, but as far as an exclusive Hebrew system is concerned, the first mention is found with instructions given to Moses at the time of...

    Ancient Hebrew Calendar

Thanks for raising the point. Yes, it has been known by astronomers that the lunar and solar cycles synchronize in the 49th year but no one seemed to be aware of a calendar using it. I believe the Israelite's did use it.

    Ancient Hebrew Calendar

In the following series of posts, I hope to describe an old Hebrew luni-solar calendar which, if understood properly, adds considerable light to our understanding of the scriptures. The modern Jewish calendar, as we now know it, is not the same as the one described in ancient Hebrew literature...

    What did the Galileans see?

When Jesus arrived back in Galilee, there was some excitement among the people. They had seen something earlier in Jerusalem that had left quite an impact on them by the look of the following verse. What was it that they had seen? What say my cyber buddies? :chin

    Harmony of the Gospels

At the first temple cleansing did the Jews say, or did they not say, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple" ? You seem to be saying that they never said that (or never meant it) and that it is no proof of the gospels being a reliable historical record. Really? Are you not aware...

    Harmony of the Gospels

So, the Jews did not say what John reported they said? Rather than minimizing John, I prefer to believe what he said - that Jesus cleared the temple during Passover AD 27, then cleared it again when Matthew, Mark, and Luke reported it - 3rd April AD 30.

    Harmony of the Gospels

At the first temple cleansing did the Jews say, or did they not say, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple" ? If so, take a history lesson then do the math.

    Harmony of the Gospels

The gospels of Mark, Luke, and John are very good chronological accounts of Jesus ministry. So is Matthew, but in the case of Matthew he writes thematically and hence out of sequence sometimes. Yes, there were 2 cleansings of the temple, one in April AD 27 and the next on 3rd April AD 30.

    Harmony of the Gospels

Yes, 2 temple cleansings is how I would explain it. Here is my full article on the subject: And, it is not "my" discrepancy; it is my example of how Bible critics call it a discrepancy. I am posting as an apologist - not as a critic. That is why I posted in this Apologetics forum.

    Harmony of the Gospels

Did you see the example I gave to Oz in post #4? Another example is how the synoptic gospels puts the cleansing of the temple at the end of Christs ministry, just before his death. John places the temple cleansing at the beginning of his ministry, 3 years earlier. How do you explain that? I...

    Harmony of the Gospels

What if you are witnessing to a historian? Not only does he have a "missing spirit" but he is handicapped by being asked to believe a gospel narrative that appears to contain contradictions.

    Harmony of the Gospels

Well, a lot of Christian scholars depreciate the value of St. John as being reliable in its history, and out of sequence in its chronology. Neither claim is true!

    Harmony of the Gospels

Hang on a bit Sis. No one would disagree with your 'spiritual' emphasis, but both are important. History is related to prophecy, and the fulfillment of Messianic (1st coming) prophecy is very important.

    Harmony of the Gospels

Contrary to those who depreciate John’s value as an historical book, his gospel provides a very useful historical date. When Jesus spoke of the temple, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews answered, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will...

No, my scripture references are on the left hand side of the map. Ive snipped this from your post because Im only dealing with Jesus early ministry period. Well, Im pleased to say that Im 100% in agreement with BlueLetterBible's summary of Jesus early ministry. Yes, it helped. :)

    Harmony of the Gospels

Hi Oz. Most of the criticisms of St. John relate to order of events. Here is an example: The gospel of John tells the story of the calling of several disciples at the place where John was baptising. (John 1:37-42) This place was in the Jordan valley well away from Galilee. However, the...

    Harmony of the Gospels

It has been exceedingly difficult to harmonise the gospel of John with Matthew, Mark and Luke during the time of Jesus' early ministry. This is because the synoptic gospels miss out the time from his temptation unto his Galilean ministry. They jump straight from in the wilderness in Judea to...

The Kings of the South and the North

Yes, the 'virgin' prophecy is a classic example of 'near-far' fulfillment. Thanks for mentioning it.
