    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Hi tob, Can you perhaps cite the heresy that is currently promoted by the Southern Baptist Church?

I see what you did there. :)

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Southern Baptists aren't a heretical organization, nor as Dr. Mohler a heretic, despite the fact that I disagree with him on certain things. It's not a good idea to get our opinions about others by referring to a random list online.

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I laid out an argument for this before. http://christianforums.net/Fellowship/index.php?threads/eternal-conscious-torment-and-justice.51830/

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I think this is the portion that is most relevant to Apologetics, as Hell is a popular subject in discussing with those who object to Christianity. They will often cite how the Traditional view of Hell does not make sense, and makes God out to look evil from their perspective. I've given this...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I'm personally not sure I agree with that, I don't embrace Divine Command Theory, that something is right merely because God commands it to be so. I think something is right if it flows from God's character, which of course his commandments do. I do not think that God would be just for...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

Conditionalists are not a Monolithic movement, in that we do not all share the same opinions, and this in particular is an issue where there are differing perspectives. Some look to the passage in Luke 16 and see that as an intermediate state of conscious punishment for the wicked, prior to...

    Should Christians rethink Hell?

I had a feeling there would be a post about this debate, so I came on just to check and was not disappointed. :) I really appreciate Chessman's analysis in Post #26, though am sad to see there hasn't been as much discussion on the debate itself. Since it doesn't seem that any ECTer watched the...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

Glad you asked, I have no problem answering your questions tob. Let's look at it within the context shall we, that's always a good approach to understanding Scripture. Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

Can you per chance cite an argument from Romans 11?

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

Romans 11 is a very neglected and beautiful text amongst many Christians. Indeed Romans 9-11 are so often misunderstood, and only proof texted for the seemingly salvation verses, when really Paul is dealing with a larger theme. The inclusion of the Gentiles and the rejection of unbelieving...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

You keep appealing to texts outside of Romans 11. Perhaps you can address the direct context, where Paul is making his specific reasoning about ethnic Israel. Please provide your interpretation of Romans 11, making sense out of texts such as the Gentiles being saved in order to make Israel...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

What you are promoting is replacement theology, which is very much so in error. When Paul asks the question of whether or not God has rejected his people, this is his answer: "I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

This would be incorrect, and an attempt to explain away God's plan for Israel. Why would Paul consistently be distinguishing Israel with the Gentiles throughout the Chapter, if the elect was some ethnically diverse group that he is referring to? Luckily, he states this very clearly multiple...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

Yes, I meant Romans. lol Was in a little bit of a hurry writing that. This is gleaned from the context. This whole section is about Israel. I don't think we should dwell too long on the meaning of charisma, but rather on the context of what Paul is saying. A word's meaning is provided by...

Paul's meaning of "gifts" in Rom 11:29

Acts 11:29 is an explanation of Acts 11:28. This is demonstrated by Paul using the explanatory conjunction "for" at the beginning of the clause. As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. Acts 11:28 (ESV)...

Is it Wrong to Think About Hell All the Time?

God could choose not to punish them, and he could have chosen not to create hell. Yet he created it, and he chooses to punish them and send them there. Case closed.

Is it Wrong to Think About Hell All the Time?

You're assuming that everyone intends exactly what you mean, but when I argue the point that actually God sends people to hell they object. This leads me to believe that I don't misunderstand them, and they're trying to get God off the hook of sending billions be eternally tormented.

Is it Wrong to Think About Hell All the Time?

He has his beliefs and you have your beliefs, the question at hand is what is the grounding justification for said beliefs. What does the Word of God have to say on this matter, on whether or not the idea of people sending themselves to hell is an accurate belief. This hasn't really been...
