The Value of Evangelism in Reformed Theology

There has to be something in the rules that prohibits displaying other posters as potential dinner. :)

Piper and MacArthur! I am still gobsmacked! There is more to you than I have given you credit. In all seriousness, I apologize for my lack of recognition.

Is Salvation really a "free Gift" of God?

Agreed! Sometimes when I read what you write, I get the sense we are on our own in doing the obeying, confession, and repentance, i.e. I notice only one one side of the coin. Not a criticism of your writing, just simply to say I find it encouraging to see you write regarding both sides of coin.

    Bible Study Matt. 25;46

To return pandantic with pandantic, I would only know what you you were thinking if the sum total of your thoughts were in the post. Sounds like a pretty bleak POV. Curious, how do you avoid nihilism?

Who Goes to Heaven and Who Goes to Hell?

As an encouragement, WIP, we have much bigger reasons than not being gifted with tongues to think we are lost causes! Thankfully, Christ came to seek and save the lost [causes]. :)

Always good to find agreement! To maintain our balance, let's get over to the Job thread and disagree! :)

Is Salvation really a "free Gift" of God?

Do I have to choose one or the other? :) There seems to me an act on God's part in which He gives us new birth. It seems to be an event. (But I have run across people that show evidence of salvation that the event was analog to pregnancy. In the same way a woman suddenly has the thought "Oh...

Is Salvation really a "free Gift" of God?

In trying to wrap my mind around what you wrote, is it accurate to restate what you wrote as: The means of salvation is obeying the Gospel. The means of obeying the Gospel is repentance. (Repentance defined as turning to God in submission to Him as Lord.) The means to repentance is confessing...

Is Salvation really a "free Gift" of God?

I agree completely! In my own case, I see it as very one-sided with me on the receiving end.

JLB, How much obedience do I need to be saved? 50/50, 75/25, 100%?

Interesting statement. I'd like to better understand what you mean. When I accept the truth claim of a statement, did I not consciously choose it? Not trying to pick an argument. I'd just like to know what you're thinking, if you're up for it.

Yeh, I don't try to be a Calvinist either, but I found myself to be one. In this forum, once you're willing to state it, it's like sticking your head out above the foxhole! :) BTW, by my best judgment, what you say you believe on the Five Points of Calvinism is not what Reformed theology...

    Bible Study Matt. 25;46

Thanks for clarifying. FWIW, I think you are correct. Ultimately all authority is from the Godhead and from there is delegated. Interestingly, delegated authority is still retained by the one delegating it. A profound statement by Jesus to Pilate: “You would have no authority over me at all...

Who Goes to Heaven and Who Goes to Hell?

Guess I should not get too expectant on having the original poster answer the question I posted yesterday.... :)

    Judging others

Seems to me when a person is begging for mercy, they have come to the end of thinking they have some claim on God's goodness. They are done with thinking their obedience, love, sacrifice, etc. merits God's goodness. They realize they do not have a leg to stand on when it comes to deserving God's...

    Judging others

I know I look to you as a paragon of humility, virtue, and good looks to boot. :) I do wish, though, you were as humble as me. Thinking about it, I may change my name to "humblest soul".

The Value of Evangelism in Reformed Theology

I am glad you have stopped. I want to encourage you to think a bit more about what is meant by the "holy catholic church". Historically and even now it means the exact same thing as what you call the "body of Christ". Believing in the "holy catholic church" is the same as saying you believe in...

My dear Wondering. (You may irritate me to no end at times, but I still like you! Kind of like my bio sisters) I am about to risk asking you to listen to something from a source you probably have a real strong disposition to not listen to. So brace yourself and do me the favor of at least...
