Bible Study Do we love the truth!

I think it reflects a true belief that Jesus and the Bible are one and the same. I think they really believe that when the Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart", they think it means "Trust in what the Bible says with all your heart." Likewise, when the Bible says "Walk in the...

This is confusing for sure... I do not understand why anyone who is wholly dependent on Jesus' forgiveness would turn his back on that dependency and declare that his rightness with God is because he does what is required of him.

So the pastor becomes lost every third day upon sinning, then must be saved again?

Actually, in a strange way, you are right. Since I am saved, I don't need to "participate", "abide", "endure", or "persevere" in order to be saved. And if you are not saved, none of those things will help you.

"saved by grace" refers to salvation. I gave an lol to Don Adams saying it doesn't. If you have been saved, you have salvation. Or you could say, if you were saved, you are saved.

I asked about a preacher's comment that he had gone as many as three days in a row without sinning. I was wondering how you might react to that comment, and asked: If a person commits one sin every three days of his life, he is a habitual sinner right? He doesn't remain in Him because his...

There are many in the faith plus works saves me crowd. You place yourself squarely among them. But even you must admit that you fall short of the righteousness and holiness that God requires of you, right? What do you do about that? Do you seek His forgiveness?

Vivify (Merriam-Webster): 1) to endow with life or renewed life: Animate; 2) to impart vitality or vividness to. If members of Christ who are "united to His grace that vivifies their actions" fail to perform said vivified works and fail to obtain salvation as a result while others do perform...

Conflating the two can devolve into Bible worship.

I'm not Protestant, I'm Baptist. Certainly it cannot refer to the Catholic concept of salvation by works, because it says, "not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Eph 2:9) See, I can be strident too.

Maybe you could explain how you think it works. Let's take, for example, the testimony of a preacher, one of your fellow Texans. In a sermon a couple years ago he said he had gone as many as 3 days in a row without sinning. I don't judge the man when I say he must have a different definition...

"Obey the gospel" occurs in 3 places in the NT. Romans 10:13-16 gives the most context as to what it means: 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” 14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not...

Lol, "saved by grace through faith" does not refer to salvation?

You apparently do not understand that John 3:36 has two different Greek words that are translated in the NKJV as "believe" and a third Greek word translated as "obey". The first word is "πιστεύω". According to Louw Nida, it can mean, "a) think to be true, b) trust, c) have Christian faith, or...

Bible Study Do we love the truth!

It is not hard to understand that we can love the things of God. What is hard to understand is why some people think loving God is a work that merits salvation, as if obeying the commandment to "love the Lord your God with all your heart" (Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, and Luke 10:27) leads to...

Bible Study Do we love the truth!

It's not possible for any person to create or stimulate "a desire to love the things of God". This is the pervue of God alone. He creates it when He comes to live in our hearts, and He stimulates it all day every day from inside our hearts. And proclaiming that the commission of sin is evidence...

Bible Study Do we love the truth!

This post has a bunch of red flags. Can you explain how making "belief in Christ" synonymous with "obedience to Christ" is not turning faith into works?

Funny how the same topics are discussed on different forums. I just posted the following on another forum... Faith does not save people. God saves people. And He has chosen, on His own accord, with no counsel from man, to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians 1:21 gives us that insight into...

Peter not the rock nor the first Pope

The image of Peter walking around in a robe with a pointed hat and a staff in his hand bears no resemblance to the Peter I read about in the Bible, lol.
