10 types of drivers you will see on the road

I haven't owned a car for over 20 years, but when I did drive, I would have been the Pop Star. I always had some music playing and sang along with it.

The TOG

Of the ten listed I'm probably closest to the Pensioner but not quite to the extreme described.

I'm the guy that will lock my cruise at the speed limit and drive. I will wait at 4-way stops to properly yield to right of way even when the other driver(s) doesn't seem to know how to do it. I refuse to accelerate above the speed limit just because the driver behind me wants to go faster and especially if he/she is tailgating me, which I totally despise. Just this morning I had a guy tailgating me on a two lane highway. My cruise was set to 55 and I couldn't even see his headlights in my rear view mirror he was following so close. If I had to stop suddenly, he'd have been lodged in my truck box for sure. In this case for his safety and mine and to provide an opportunity for him to pass I slowed down to 45 mph. I figured it would frustrate him enough to go around me. He did not pass but apparently got the hint and backed off, which actually surprised me. So, in response I returned to 55 mph and continued on my way. He never did pass and no longer tailgated. Kudos to him for that! I do slow down earlier than most at stops and accelerate a little slower than most but not to the point of painfully slow. I do this to save fuel and wear and tear of my vehicles plus now that it is winter and the potential for ice and compacted snow we are forced to be a little extra cautious about hard stopping, fast acceleration, and sudden changes of direction.

I try to be courteous. When I enter highways I try to accelerate to match the speed of the traffic and slide in without causing the other driver to adjust speed if possible. Likewise, when I exit I try to wait until I enter the exit ramp before I decelerate if the ramp is long enough. When making a left turn at an intersection with a light I will move my vehicle out into the intersection and wait for the opportunity to make my turn so if the light turns red I can still complete my turn. I've been behind drivers that don't move out into the intersection and the light turns red and they end up waiting for the next complete cycle. This can be frustrating. I try to use my signal lights for all applicable motions to let others know what my intentions are.

I don't fit in any of the categories :shrug

I drive safely, defensively as opposed to offensively, like to listen to music but don't particularly want to share it with those around me. I have been known to amble merrily along when there's a speed-demon behind me - I figure if there's an emergency, the driver would pass me.

I might fit closest the "The Learner" but I am not nervous.

it doesn't state if one is a commercial driver. when I drive commercially im way more cautious. people don't respect things that big.

I have had some big semi's try to bully me.I am going the speed limit and they do not like that so they get right on my tail.If I had to stop fast it would be all over. Some of the worst drivers on the road are the big semi drivers.

I hesitate to sum up a particular group such as semi drivers in this way but I do know what you're talking about. As I already mentioned, one of my biggest pet peeves is tailgating. I hate it. It endangers the lives of me, those with me, the driver behind me, anyone that is with that driver, and those in vehicles around us. Beyond that it is disrespectful, discourteous, and bullying. There is absolutely no excuse in my opinion for tailgating. Okay, done ranting.

I recall one time not too long ago when I looked in my rearview mirror and all I could see was grill!! I'm not kidding. I could not see the headlights, bumper, or any part of the hood or windshield. This was on an interstate highway traveling at 70 mph! That truck couldn't have been more than five feet behind me. I highly doubt the driver was able to even see my tail/brake lights. If I had to stop, that semi would have rolled right over me before the driver could possibly have reacted to my brakes. I slowed down...a lot....until the truck finally passed.
