He did not have the greatest track record of being all that bright. Getting chased out of New York, and eventually dying in the midwest for his views. Couple that with having to deal with 40 wives, much less one.

Sure, there may have been reasons why men had multiple wives in the bible (none of which that make sense to me, but anyways), but that was then.

I agree. I believe the only reason for having multiple wives is to sooth the lusts of the flesh. Once the Old Covenant became obsolete, having multiple wives followed suit.
