Has anyone been on a WATER fast for more than 7 days? That is water only: no juice, no fruits, no vegies, no food: Nothing but water and the bread of life which is God's word.

-What did you fast for?
-What did you read?
-How did you worship?
-How did you avoid monotony?
-How did you prepare?
-What personal advice would you give to anyone that fasts?
-Along with your fast, did you put away anything else along with food and juice (e.g. computer, friends and family, music, hobbies, etc.)
-Other experiences?

I have been desiring to fast, but in this area my faith is a little weak, not only my faith, but my flesh as well. Subscribing to this thread to see peoples' replies...

Matthew 4:3-4
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Luke 17:5
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

Joel 2:12-14
Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

Matthew 6
16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

I've never fasted quite that long on just water. I think the longest water fast I've done was 3 days. I did fast for 10 days a few years ago, but it wasn't a water fast. I only drank water a fruit juice and ate only salads. I did that to prepare for a complete fast for one day. I neither ate nor drank anything for 24 hours. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, maybe because I had prepared myself for it. I took a day off work to do that. I probably couldn't have done it if I were at work.

How long have you fasted previously?
How long ago was that?

Make sure you aren't attempting to do something big that you haven't accomplished at a smaller scale first. It's not impossible but it definitely makes it easier which allows you to focus on the purpose of the fast over realizing you didn't think it would be so difficult. Once you have the purpose find scriptures and songs that fall in line with it so your praise and worship also support your prayers. If you have the Logos bible software(highly recommended), going through the annotations on your scriptures will definitely avoid monotony. If you don't then pull out the message bible and an amplified bible (available through the bible app) and study things out that way. Anything else you put away for the fast I guess depends on what type of revelation you're looking for and how much of a factor time is. Pray about it. Let us know how it goes and what you got from it. Godspeed!

Is it possible to fast like this if you have a high-stress job? OR should you fast like this when you have time off from work?
I wonder because I can make it like a day (sundown to sundown) fasting (I did recently for Yom Kippur) but I don't know the first thing about doing any more than that.

I did a 7 day water fast one time.
I did it to detoxify my body and not necessarily unto the Lord, though I may have read the bible during that week (almost a certainty in fact) but it was more for imagined health benefits than anything.
I don't think I even went to church during that time.
I did not prepare. I just decided to do it one day so started the next morning.
I did not find it monotonous.

I didn't put aside anything else, just all food, juice, coffee, and meds/aspirin whatever and so forth. All I had for intake was a lot of water. When I felt hungry, I would drink two big glasses of water and that would curb the hunger. I even went to work if I recall correctly. I thought that I would be lacking in energy, but the reverse seemed to be true for me. I had plenty of energy and felt good. That was accomplished by my body. if it has no food, then it will start burning fat cells and toxic cells for energy. On about the third day, my pee turned cloudy and dark. This was toxins being expelled from my body, then it cleared up again. This is normal and to be expected. When one comes off of a fast, it is said to ease back into food with restraint, small portions of non-greasy foods and so forth so as to not shock the system I think. I didn't follow this advice and went out and got me a huge greasy cheeseburger and it was great and I had no ill effects from it.

That's my experience with the only 7 day water fast that I have ever done. I have been toying with idea of another one, and this time for spiritual reasons primarily. I do believe that the Lord wants for us to fast...even more than we realize.
