Here and there I've heard people say the Christian God is "Not some God that you can just snuggle". Perhaps. Perhaps not. I get what they're saying. They say it in the respect of kissing up, or seeking empty brownie points. And life's not gonna be easy just because we are a Christian.
Our God means serious business.
He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. Psalm 110:6
But he takes no pleasure in judgment.
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. Ezekiel 18:32
How intimate is our Lord?
Now to begin, we know that YAHWEH manifest in the flesh as Jesus Christ. He took on flesh. God clothed in human weakness. The scriptures say that since he bore our sufferings, he is there to sympathize with us, and help us in our temptations. God doesn't want us to be upset. He's the one in time's end who will extend his warm and loving finger to us and wipe away our tears.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4
Jesus held his disciples closely. In fact, the discple whom he loved rested his head upon his bosom.
"Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved." John 13:23
How intimate is our Lord?
Psalm 91:12 says that his angels grab us, and lift us up, because he doesn't even want us to stub our toe! He doesn't want us to be hurt the least bit. But we live in this fallen world, and thus are subject to it. But a few verses back in Psalm 91 says
"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler."
How intimate is our Lord?
Our God pretty much took the bullet for us. Christ died on the cross the death we deserved. Yet after taking our sin upon us, and rising up to life again he didn't say "I can't take any more pain"... He said so more to cast our cares upon him. He still sympathies with us.
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7
For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Hebrews 2:18
The God who shall fill the places with the corpses of the wicked has made a way that he wouldn't have to do that. For he has adopted us who believe on him. For how intimate is our Lord? A nursing mother holds the child in her arms, close to her bosom, and close to her heart. Yet the our Lord of lords and King of kings wants to robe us and crown us with glory, wants to hold us closer than a mother ever could.
"Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee." Isaiah 49:15.
How intimate is our Lord?
See what people mean when they say that the Bible is God's love letter to man? Like Hosea he calls us back every time we prostitute against him. He is faithful, just, and loving. This may sound weird... But I think our God is one we can snuggle to...

Perhaps he was just the lucky disciple? Or perhaps God wants to hold us closely. So closely. When the prodigal son, who was representative of us coming from being lost to salvation, came to his father which represented our Father in heaven... What did the father do? He hugged him. He held him. He kissed him.
"And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him." Luke 15:20
