10 years old!?!?!? I applaud this man who understands what parenthood is all about.

I, too, applaud this Dad for taking seriously his role in the family. She's 10 ... and dating?

Bless that Dad for being a loving parent!

This was a very bad idea. Public humiliation is not a good punishment. My mother often humiliated me publicly in front of both other family members and in front of my friends, as well as in front of complete strangers. It wasn't to punish me, but just the way she was. I sometimes cried myself to sleep because of it. We never had a normal mother-son relationship. This is likely to affect this girls relationship with her dad for years to come.

Perhaps. But better than having a pregnant 10 year-old.

Discipline or humiliation? Do some parents go too far?
Teen who stole endures public punishment

In that second video, it says that the boy stole $60 from his sisters wallet. That was wrong, but it was also private. Nobody outside the family knew about it. The violation was committed within the family, and the punishment should also have been within the family. Now this boy has been humiliated in the eyes of the entire world, since it has been put on Youtube. Does that really seem like a fitting punishment to you?

Yes, it does. One step more would have been him being publicly tried in court after being publicly attested when he stole from someone NOT in the family.
We are to raise our children, not become their Buddies.

I agree that this one went to far. The fact that the video is public could interfere with him getting a job some day.

Quite the contrary, I would say. I know his comments in the video would prompt me to be more likely to hire him, than not.

I see that the girl on the social media site was not only disobeying her father but that she was publicly lying to people. She in fact, publicly humiliated herself. Her dad just let everyone know that she had lied and that she had done that while being disobedient to her father.
Tough lesson but one well deserved.
I think I would have stepped it up a notch and made her do her own public confession.

The boy with the $60 thief. He had hurt his family and that should have been kept in the family. He had not publicly humiliated himself or his family. He apology was owed only to his family.

I hope we don't see a good trend turn into a bad one by extremists.

TOG
Any parent who takes pleasure in humiliating their child I believe is a sick person. This is not something one does simply because 'that is just the way they are.' No child deserves to be the object of their parent's destructive personality.

We have cell phones but they do not have access to the internet. We have them mainly to communicate between family members. Jake, 9, doesn't need one yet but if we lived in a larger place, I would want him to have one.
There is no excuse for children to be able to misuse a cell phone, except that the parent does take control over what that phone can do.

Why, because he is honest?
Not really. Mainly because (as we "Christians" are supposed to be doing), he understood and accepted what his father considered a just discipline that would reach him where he lived.

We can all sit here, armchair quarterbacking, and utter a lot of irrelevant conjecture, both ways, but none of us know the father's intent, nor the boy's particular responsive needs.

I have to disagree, it is possible for a mother or father or both to control the calls. if I call Nathan. she will answer first. aslo land lines aren't much good and cheaper then a simple basic cell phone service.

mom and dad can not control what they can not see..

mom and dad can not control what they can not see..
gee imprison the kid then. I looked at porn at the age of 10 via a friend. one can reduce the likelihood but not stop any child from doing that they will find a way.
