a visit from the Jehovah witnesses

OK. I hear rumbling on the front porch. I was praying out loud, so I'm thinking...great. Its my probation officer, its a delivery person, I'm going to seem crazy. Guess what?

Jehovah's Witnesses! It went surprisingly well. I had my phone in my hand when I answered the door. They made a comment about it and I brushed it off, "I'm just a big weirdo who takes my phone everywhere, sorry," and then they started the convo.

They brought out a Bible and I asked what denomination they were from. They said Jehovah's Witnesses, and I said I was raised Presbyterian and now lean Pentecostal, so think we're coming at it from a different angle. They said "we want you to know that we believe in Jesus, that we're Christian," and I said "I do know, we're just approaching it differently," and then we made polite good byes and they were off.

Did I do the right thing? God know the very intentions of our hearts, so I think maybe they are Christians, just Christians in serious error.

What do y'all think?

I was visited by some JW's recently, but because the majority of the people in my neighborhood are hispanic the people that came to the door were really only looking for spanish speaking people so our exchange was very short. They dropped off a flyer and left.

I did have a moment a number of years ago when some mormons stopped by and I did get into a bit of an argument with them about what they believe. I don't think any of us came out of that better off.

To be honest I'm not sure they are Christians.
Interesting that when I've had JW's knock on my door I tell them that I beleive in Jesus Christ as the Son of God the Father and I am a spirit filled believer and I would love to chat to them. They decline and say goodbye, they don't even give me their leaflets.

I'm not sure they do the following.

Romans 10:9-13
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

No, they are not Christians. They believe in a Jesus that doesn't exist--a mere creature, not the Creator in human flesh, the God-man. The rest of their error stems from that. Besides, they don't think you're a Christian; they think only JWs are the true Christians.

I vaguely remember you mentioning that now, jasonc.

So, in your opinion+experience, are the JW people Christians? Or is it some kinda cult with a Christian facade?

the later. they aren't Trinitarians an also have some other views that aren't biblical . oh say who goes to heaven., being born again, also a cult as well.

It is very possible that there are true Christians within that organization, just as it is possible for LDS and other organizations that claim they believe in God, it is just that there are so many false doctrines being taught within them.
highly unlikely as they are going to rebuke if you are one of them. they have a whacky baptism. learn three books an then get baptized. then you might be allowed to live eternally on the earth. you aren't able to have communion as you must be one of the 144,000 . its the blue book an the you can live forever too , plus the Jesus the greatest man who ever lived

JWs Are not, nor were they ever Christians, they are heretics so you did well.

Interesting point.

I have known a Mormon for many years. He does maintenance work at my workplace and at my house.

We have many conversations over the years. We discussd what he believes and what I beleive. We lost touch for a while when he move to Utah.

He came back to the UK a couple of years ago. We were talking one day and he said to me "You know scripture better than me and to be honest I'm happy to agree to disagree but to be honest I've come to the position that if I find myself talking to people about Jesus I tell them to find a church where Jesus is preached"

He didn't say come to my church. This man was an ordained elder in the Mormon church.

One day he came to our house to pick up a tumble dryer that we gave him. He came with his 3rd or 4th wife (Can't remember). Anyway the following day he came to talk to me. He was so grateful for the tumble dryer and came to tell us but he also said "When we walked into your house we could sense the spirit of God the Holy Spirit in your house and we truly felt blessed by your gift and the sense of the Holy Spirit"

I think he is a lovely genuine bloke. When I ask him to do some work at our house I always insist on paying him his full rate. At times he has said to me "no charge" I insist on paying him and has said "nope God has told me to bless you, it's my gift and blessing to you"

Interesting

That's sad. I feel badly for the people caught up in this mess.
So do I. We today call it a cult. Maybe it's actually a religion.

Either way both are off tack.

Both pervert the Gospel, lead people into bondage and indoctrinate people. It ensnares them rather than release them. It blinds them and they can't see the truth. It leads people to control others and not release them.

The only hope they have is that if they obey the rules then maybe God will accept them.

That is why Jesus was hated by such people but loved by those whom were under the control of the religious.

All we can do is pray for those ensnared, like an animal caught in a trap and can't get out. That God opens that trap and releases them.

If they won't let us pray for them at the time we pray for them when they walk away. It's not a wasted prayer.

Next week we are going to baptise a confirmed Muslim. He heard the Gospel from someone and walked away.
A seed was sown a prayer prayed and now he is set free.

Both. Sociologically, a cult may be best seen as a subset of religion--often a distinct development and separation from a recognized and accepted religion, resulting in tension between the two.

Christianity is a religion and perhaps, from the Jewish perspective, a cult.
