I love, love, love, love, LOVE The Chronicles of Narnia by Clives Staples Lewis (hence the username from The Horse and His Boy) and I just wondered if anyone here would like to talk about it.

Remember...He is not a tame lion!

I love the Narnian Chronicles too!

I read them 35 years ago to my children, and they loved them too! As a teacher, I read them to my pupils.

One student said, "Mr. C. I wish there really was a Narnia!"

I replied, "Oh, but there is!"

She then said, "Yes, but I don't want to have to wait till I die to get there!"

My favourite of the series is The Last Battle.

I thought I was the only one! I tried to pick my favorite and I had a very hard time. Finally I narrowed it down to three: The Last Battle, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Horse and His Boy.
C.S. Lewis is on my list of people that I want to meet in heaven. His ability to draw people into another world that exists only in his fervent imagination is incredible. Plus, it's not every day that you find fantasy novel (ny favorite genre and type of book) that is based upon Christianity instead of humanism, paganism, and witchcraft!
Please let me know if you've heard of any other Christian (or at least anti-sorcery) fantasy stories.

Have you read any of George MacDonald's fantasy writings such as The Princess and the Goblin?

George MacDonald was C.S. Lewis's mentor. Lewis claimed that he had never written a book without quoting something from MacDonald.

You can read George MacDonald's books free at this site:

George MacDonald's E-Texts

Aravis, I just noticed that the writings which are listed below the words "George MacDonald texts on Project Glutenberg", are no longer directly downloadable from the site I gave you. However, if, at the site I gave you, you click on "Project Glutenberg", you can download those particular writings from that site.

My stupid webTV won't let me download anything at all (I think I'm only able to even get online under grace!). I can only view text pages (I think that's the right term, don't quote me on that.)

Yeah, I read the Chronicles of Narnia a few times. Like most people I guess, my fav is The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Though to be fair. I have not read them in a while. I actually just joined this site because of a Christian fantasy novel, Iman's Isle, by S.A. Davis and I wanted to find recommendations for more Christian Fantasy. But as soon as I saw this topic though, I had to reply ;)

I read the whole Chronicles of Narnia in less than a week! I couldn't put it down! My favorite is The Magician's Nephew. What's yours?
Oh, Blender, if you liked the Chronicles of Narnia, then you'll love C.S. Lewis' adult fantasy, That Hideous Strength. If you hadn't read it, then you never would have known that Lewis is the father of most Science Fiction staples such as cyborgs and what not.

I'm the Narnian ambassador to Mexico.

When I taught Christian school in the US, I would use my free period to tell the Narnia stories to the grade school kids.

Yes! I am a Narnian! I read all the Narnia books as an adult and wish I'd read them as a child. Unfortunately, the fantasy genre has long been the object of scorn or fear (It's satanic!) among many Christians and this worthy genre for transmitting Christian concepts and themes in an entertaining fashion was needlessly frowned upon.

I don't think I got as much out of it as an adult as I would have as a child. Reading it as an adult, I felt it wasn't challenging enough intellectually. LOTR was much more satisfying but Tolkien didn't want to create allegory and it left me less spiritually fed by it.

In any case, I encourage Christian to read the Narnia books whether they are adult or child. It's good stuff! :yes

I just got back from showing the first 45 minutes of the BBC version of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" for children's church here in Mexico. It went pretty well.

I just got back from showing the BBC version of Prince Caspian, in Spanish, at children's church. You should have heard all the girls cry out in alarm when they carried Reepicheep in on a stretcher.

:lol

My son just finished the series today. He really liked it too. I think he read "The Last Battle" in record time! :)
My daughter is reading it also. She is on "Prince Caspian" right now.
