Iconoclast

The following were sermon notes from a message by Greg Nichols

How the apostate goes back

1] They draw off their thoughts, all that they may, from the remembrance of God, death, and the judgment to come.

2]Then they cast off by degrees private duties, as closet prayer, curbing their lusts, watching sorrow for sin and the like.

3]Then they shun the company of lively and warm Christians.

4]After that, they grow cold to public duty, as hearing and reading sermons and scripture, they forsake godly conversations.

5]They then begin to pick holes as we say, in the coats of some of the godly; and that devilishly that they might have a surprised reason to throw religion behind their backs.

6]Then they begin to adhere to, and associate themselves with carnal, loose, and wanton men.

7]Then they give way to carnal and wanton discourses in secret: and are glad if they can see other professed Christians engaging in compromising activities.

8]After this, they begin to play with little sins openly.

9]And then, being Hardened, they show themselves as they are. Thus being launched again into the gulf of misery unless a miracle of grace prevent it, they everlastingly perish in their own deceiving's

Iconoclast I know you did not write this but I have a question . What are "little sins" ?
Hello H,
I heard this sermon when it was preached. He was speaking of unholy behavior, sins of the tongue, gossip, and other similar conduct that hypocrites will attempt to keep out of public view. As they drift away from holiness and the means of grace, they throw off the outward facade into small but open sin.
All sin ,is sin, but his point was,as the person declines they do not go rob the bank...they drift day to day.
