I work in a lot of peoples homes and many times I am alone, arrangements are made for access and so forth so I can make my repairs and so forth. I don't play those games and don't even look around at their belongings, well sometimes I have looked at their pictures on the wall, lol.
But with all the mini-cams on the market and dishonest people....you have to expect to be filmed in situations like these, or for Chris Hansen to be hiding in a bedroom, lol. My reputation is worth more than anything in their home, even gold. I wont even take the dusty cobwebby 10 dollar bill that is under the water heater when I remove it for replacement, I take it right to them, which has happened!
I remember that 20/20 show where they tried to catch dishonest contractors and pulled a wire loose from a refrigerator and called some companies to see if they lied, and most did but one man was honest. I expect that sort of thing, aside from always having been honest. I might've had one of these calls the day before yesterday. I got called out and they said we turn up the thermostat and nothing happens. The unit was in the attic and the only thing wrong was that the service switch had been turned off. It had no power to the furnace. I could've lied and made a couple hundred bucks but I didn't. Reputation. Honesty. I did charge them minimum labor. Gas and insurance doesn't grow on trees. Professionalism and referrals are worth more than deceit and the name that goes with it.
A lot of people don't realize that. One of my colleagues lost his 600 dollar per week job over a 50 dollar part , that he changed for a customer and didn't tell the company about. She called back the next day with a callback and mentioned it. He gave up 600 bucks a week for his family for 50 lousy dollars and now his name is smeared all over town.
