You know what's interesting? Methamphetamine began as a prescription drug, and its still available+produced in the US and I think a couple other countries, too. The trade name is Desoxyn, but I think now there's a generic available. Its approved for ADD/ADHD, obesity, narcolepsy, and some forms of depression.

Drug abuse is terrible, no matter the substance involved. Meth destroys lives ("Speed kills," as the hippies once said), but so does booze...so do pain killers, so do even the much more commonly prescribed anti-anxiey drugs, such as ativan and klonopin and xanax. When it comes to messing with brain chemistry, bad things almost always happen, no matter the substance(s) involved.

while there might be a type prescribed meth. i have doubts it is any thing like the type manufactured in labs today .. .there have been law officers had their throat burned from breathing it in...

to be honest with ya i didn't,t post this for your humor or any one else humor . it tells what meth will do to you. . if you think it is that offensive have the admin remove it cause i sure aint .especially when it speaks the truth
 
My own brother has completely ruined his life with that crap. He has been in prison five times, and has blown a very substantial inheritance within a few years.

I have to call anyone claiming any merit to that stuff, a bald-faced liar.

meth is a silent killer i tried it a couple times and liked it.. but things happened before really likening it.. i have seen first hand what it will do i am even opposed to legalizing marijuana and i use to love to smoke it

It's already legal here. Then surprise..more under the influence stops.
 
ugh. i don't know what to do about all the drug abuse, honestly. stiff anti-drug laws often make things worse. "treatment" ? OK. Go from doing fun, street drugs to a lifetime of Rx, psych drugs, plus never ending counseling, group therapy, psychiatrist appointments, periodic stints in hospitals and rehab centers.

Jesus is the ultimate answer for everyone, of course. I haven't done any drugs at all in years now, because of Christ's work in my life. Drug abuse is a sin, and sin requires genuine repentance and a commitment to actual change. That's one thing I don't like about "Celebrate Recovery" and some other programs I've seen pop up at some churches (mostly mainline denominations...); they're approaching drug abuse from Mental Health, Inc.'s perspective, and then adding in some Bible verses here and there. I doubt it works that well, given how incredibly low the success rates are from even the best programs Mental Health, Inc. has to offer.

I mentioned Desoxyn because there's really not that big a difference between a lot of street drugs and drugs doctors prescribe, especially psychiatrists. Even the seemingly innnocuous, common psych drugs, the antidepressants, share a lot of similarities to stimulants and other drugs, and they've been linked to some serious problems (suicide, homicide, health problems, etc.). I guess my bigger point is that trying to fix spiritual+soul problems with drugs...inevitably leads to failure and misery.

How true that is. While some prescription drugs can prove useful, and in some cases are essential, they do not replace the work Jesus does on the inside. And the non prescription drugs are a road to failure and misery, as Christ_empowered says.

I think it was funny, but then, I'm known as Captain Sarcasm in some circles.

So, would someone PLEASE tell me why anyone would throw their life away on drugs? Any kid with a room-temperature IQ knows the risks and dangers. Please tell me what the big deal is about a "high".

Please tell me why anyone would make yourself a loser. Tell me of all the happy, successful drug abusers.

I remember when Ted Nugent came to my kids' school to speak to the kids and parents in the 1990's. He told the story of how so many of his friends were broke or dead due to drugs. I remember Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull speaking of how he was made fun of by other rock and roll musicians cause he not only did not do drugs, but he prohibited his band members of getting involved in them as well.

So, where are these foolish kids getting the idea that drug abuse will bring them anything other than pain and suffering?
 
me again. I don't want to turn this into yet another antipsychiatry post, but...I dunno...drugs are drugs, and drugs are bad (m'kay).

There's this somewhat famous book, The Myth of Mental Illness. It was published in the early 60s or so, by Dr.Thomas Szasz. He was (he died a couple years back) a psychiatrist. I guess once he'd gotten established (and...I'm guessing...tenured somewhere, lol), he embarked on a whole career of attacking psychiatry on a number of fronts.


OK. The point is ((yes, I have one, LOL...)...drugs are drugs are...drugs. What's the difference between a charge for "illegal possession of a Schedule II controlled substance" and "taking your medicine," at least where I live? Well, if the drug is a stimulant, such as Adderall, Ritalin, Dexedrine, etc...the difference is simple: a prescription.

Fun fact: back in the early 60s, amphetamines were seen as fairly innocuous. For a while there, some drug companies even made an injectable version of methamphetamine. I seem to recall reading that it was used for treating low blood pressure (? I could be wrong, clearly...). So, then, deviants started making up fake prescriptions, all sorts of stuff started happening (mostly in california, it seems...), and the drug companies stopped making it the meth ampules (probably a good idea, lol).

It just went downhill from there. By the 70s, uppers went from being viewed as fairly harmless to being highly regulated (that's when they were moved into Schedule II of the DEA classification system, which means no refills --ever--; each and every prescription requires a written prescription). Of course...now, at least in the US, the pills that were regarded as harmless in the 50s and early 60s, then dangerous in the 70s, are regarded as "standard medical treatment" for ADD/ADHD. Thing is...ADD/ADHD does not show up on brain scans, x-rays, blood work, anything. Its...not a real disease or disorder. Of course, that's true of just about anything and everything in the DSM or the ICD.

I just...I don't think drugs in general do anybody much good. At best, they're a necessary evil. If you have a lot of physical pain, maybe opiates will make life (more) bear-able. One might even get a buzz now and then. But it really does seem that most psych drugs of all sorts--and the amphetamines started mostly as psych drugs, for low mood, fatigue, depression, counteracting sedation from other psych drugs, etc.--might make things OK for a little while, but...just wait. "Chemical band-aids" are definitely a far cry from a cure, and it often seems that "treatment" is far worse than the "disease."

Amphetamines can be lifesaving...if you have narcolepsy. I seem to recall reading that they can be used in Parkinsons, or at least...they were, before newer, more expensive drugs came out. Even then, there are serious dangers involved in long-term treatment, especially if the dosage gets high enough to trigger agitation, psychosis, etc.

Other than that...when an adult buys it off the street, they get punished. Kids get pumped full of uppers all the time. Now, "adult ADD/ADHD" is a big money maker, and it seems like everybody walks away with something out of it. The psychiatrists get to pretend that they're treating real disorders, Big Pharma makes $$$$, the "patient" gets a low-to-moderate dose of a pleasant drug (often covered by insurance...), and employers get workers hopped up on Rx speed, so they're more cheerful, compliant, can pay attention to detail, and don't get irritated by their essentially meaningless job ("alienation of the worker," as Marx described part of late stage capitalism...). Society as a whole benefits because problems that are rooted in society and the economy are described as "medical disorders," etc., and...the beat goes on.

this a very good question for my part in my high school years i started out smoking marijuana i use to be scared of it.. thinking i would turn into some burn out . in truth the only way to be a burn out on weed is to desire that .which means being a bum never work only smoking the weed . can it cause you to do other Drugs ?cause no !!!! lead to yes in most cases a person will try something else. why would a person even start .. some peer pressure like any thing else you want to be cool . much like dating a girl and thinking you have to score . a notch on the old belt . once you experience that high of any drugs .you like it and the addiction is something acquired . just like eating keep piling it on you find your self gaining weight . many have done drugs and walked away completely.. many traded it for alcohol.. another Drug i know a young man who shot up heroin his buddies left him on the couch alone. he came close to O.D dieing in his own vomit . almost lost his arm where he shot up.. my self i tried the acid i tried the meth i love the weed. so the big question why can not be answered other than satan is out seeking whom he may destroy . if you have never done drugs never got drunk never had premarital sex, never let any thing get out of control . then be thankful every body though janice joplin was so cool as a singer.. she was so stoned on drugs all she could was screech ..the age old question is why the good news is
