Doctines?

Back in the Day...a long long time ago
The Church ruled the world. Civil Government was a function of the Church...Sunday School had a whole nother meaning altogether.

Then...due to the protestants and rediscovering the Scriptures the Church was fractured...
And civil Governments were still a function of the different Church denominations. Religion was politics and politics was religion. Republic style governments is a creation of the Calvinists.
Governments go to war with each other for various reasons. Usually its about power and money. Add in a bit of religious self righteousness to the thing and you can have people actually commit to the war effort.
Europe was in a state of perpetual warfare when America was colonized...and it still was when we gained our independence from England...and we actually had a civil war going on in America long before the War of Northern Aggression actually took place. Again it was all about Politics being religion and religion being politics.
Presbyterians were not going to go live in Virginia...And they would find it difficult to exist in Pennsylvania as well.

and these tenants and labels of doctrines are leftovers from those wars and battles between differing political and doctrinal viewpoints....subscribing to the wrong one was tantamount to treason for the location and government you lived under.

I express Christian because it is what the world seems to associate with how I believe, but I am a bible thumper, holy roller, and any other names some one would like to call me. I won’t take offense to anything I’m labeled as because in the mind of those putting a name to me it is how they associate someone who follow Jesus Christ in the way that I do. Arguing sects is such a self righteous thing. It is what I try to keep in the grave man! Self righteousness . Well I guess that was my 2cents and I’m not even sure if it’s worth a penny

Arguing the different sects is such a waste of time and takes away from what we are called to do, which is to take the Gospel message out to the world in love and compassion. Each one of us will stand individually before Christ to give an account of what we did or did not do for Him here on this earth.

My favorite quote is "must be about my Fathers business".

We are told in Hebrews 10;16 that God will pit His laws in our hearts and .minds

We are told in Revelation 2:23 that He will search our hearts and minds.

To me a Christian is a person who loves the Lord and follows Him. Someone who is seeking Him and wanting to obey Him and trying to be as like Him as is humanly possible

Although any Christian can lead another person to the gospel everyone has to come to God themselves seeking truth through prayer and study

I agree with WIP it is totally confusing reading debates and arguments and questions like "Are you a Calvinist?", I have a very simple faith and I want to obey God (even though I often fail) because I love Him whether I am saved or not. But of course I want to be saved too. So I don't know what you would call me, perhaps 'a simplest?

It's called being yourself in the Lord.

I love your favorite quote! I think it may just be mine as well!

Doctrines are important, and Paul says doctrines are founded on the gospel, which encompasses the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord.

As you know, I consider myself a restorationist. I understand the importance of history, but the past few years I personally felt that arguing doctrines from various protestant and Catholic sects can distract from the true intent of the scripture.

I don't want to take away from important historical events as they show how the church has moved through time, and today is no exception

I am often confused when I see various labels used such as a Calvinist or Armenian or Post-modernism or others. I searched for descriptions of Christian systems and found hundreds of them including these mentioned here. Some say it is helpful for identifying a person's core system. I started this thread because I would like to understand how these differ. I may not contribute too much other than maybe to ask questions but I'm hoping through discussion that we might be able to offer some helpful information for me as well as others that may be as confused as I am. Thanks.
There's not really any point in reading up on them. They're wrong. The vast majority of Christian teaching today doesn't come from Scripture.
