Entertainment is killing the Church!

Sorry for late response.
the church is kinda getting democratic in nature; if you dont do something folks like...you end up losing them. They just leave you and your building.

i saw a stuff online where a church employs a comedian for entertainment, and this has gone on for long.

will post here what someone posted online... when I have the chance to do so.

Ungifted preachers are ruling the day. People are accustomed to going where they hear what they want to believe.
And pastors wanting to keep their jobs tell them exactly what they want to hear.

The music programs and Audio Visual parts of the services aren't to blame... The people themselves are. We regularly evaluate a pastor on many levels and Baptisms is only one box on a lengthy form with many boxes that get checked.

And truthfully the pastor isn't to blame. The people are. They don't witness effectively at anytime with anyone.

They invite others to become a member of the "Good guy club" or good family center. The concept of being personal with the God of the Universe isn't mentioned.

Lots of things aren't mentioned... Intentionally.
Pastors preach morality instead of hermeneutics but claim they are teaching Hermeneutics... Flat reading and understanding of scriptures don't cut it any longer.

When Jesus preached it was in limryc fashion. Non-stop poetry and stories that stuck in your head. Today we get lessons on the prayers of Paul or how prostitution is bad or especially how to be more loving.

We don't hear the stuff that we need to hear like how to make a stand for our faith and what that really means....stories of others who did take a stand and how God took up for them.

I don't understand what the thread is really about. I could be they need to hire better entertainers so people won't leave. That is what it sounds like to me so far.

Mike.

especially how to be more loving.
"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6 NIV)

There are lots of arguments in the church for what expression of faith is the most important, but, truthfully, few in the church know the truth.

My personal taste is i like church to be church.. ... i dont mind christian entertainment one bit... Pastor called me personally asked me to come to Bible study... I said Johnathon it is feb 14 are you sure you are having Bible study.. i was assured it was Bible study.. well it wasn't the young marrieds played the newly wed game.. . The game was not the problem .. but it was Bible study night.. ..
Yes Willie T i know the church is the people ... and i fully agree .

Which, truthfully, is not wrong in and of itself. It's what they like and don't like that is the problem. I always say, if you feed them they will come. Christians are actually quite hungry for the deep truths of God. And if you serve it up they will feed on it.....and tell other people about it. The church seems to be all about doing things, but don't have a firm foundation of a good Biblical diet to empower their doings.

So basically, the pastor lied.

But I'm with you.....the fun and games (and food, lol) is fine, but don't ever allow it to replace study of the Word.

Entertainment isn't killing the church I'd argue, entertainment in and of itself, is the fruit of an already dead church. Note that I said entertainment "in and of itself" -- that is, entertainment isn't always a bad thing. It's just that entertainment has to have the anointing with it, or it isn't doing anything for you. Does the worship and praise break down strongholds? Does it change people? Or does it just give them a fleeting, temporary sense of emotional uplifting? That's empty entertainment. I can get that anywhere. But give me a church where the worshipers carry an anointing to impact the congregation. God inhabits the praises of His people.

Someone published this over the Internet:

WHERE SHALL WE GO? When we can no longer differentiate a church from a social gathering, and all what we do in church is to just have fun. When we can’t differentiate a choir from a harlot, and an usher is not different from a waiter. When the church is no more conducive where shall we go? When worship session in a church is just like a disco night and we cant differentiate a pastor from a comedian. When salvation message is no longer the order of the day but prosperity and entertainment message is now the core course. When the church is no more conducive where shall we go? When prayer warrior now have to go to tongue-speaking school for utterances, and deliverance and healing session is now like MTH 201 to be taught and learned. When pastor have to pause for members to clap and shout during sermon in enthusiasm, and all what we now gain from preaching is new vocabulary and word usage. When the church is no more conducive where shall we go? When the church of God is now an exhibition ground for the latest designer jackets and hats. And those new convert can no longer come to church for the fear of being inferior. When the tithe and offering in church become the yard-stick for growth, and the little donations from the faithful member have to suffer for senior pastor’s birthday. When the church is no more conducive where shall we go?When the senior Pastors retired to the vestry and asked the junior Pastors to conduct services for them while they go to sleep, where shall we go?When Pastors no longer attend Sunday school and Bible teachings but hand it over to volunteer ministers where do we go? When fund raising is now disguised and referred to as revival. When the number of souls being lost from the church is higher than gained souls Where shall we go is the question right; But never a rhetoric one. Where we can go is simply the feet of the old rugged cross to plead for genuine spiritual revival of the church of our Father.

Where can we go? to our knees asking the Father to send revival to world.. This is God's plan to do just that

2Ch_7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

2Ch_7:14 If my people, having heard many times that was written to the OT Israelites i say Gal_3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

which are called by my name, are we not Christians

shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; the responsibility of the worlds upheaval is laid on us

then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Thinking of Matt 5
