Who's heard of geocaching? Does anyone do it? I just found out about this yesterday, and today after church I set out with our dog Murphy and made my first find. Very cool.
For those interested but don't know, people place geocaches all over the world. There are millions of them hidden and likely some right under your noses without you knowing it. When you download the app, you can see roughly where they are hidden all over the world and near by. So you go (however you want) to that area. When you're within 30 feet of the item, the app notifies you, and then your job is to find it. They can be boxes of all sizes. The one I found was like an old camera film container.
Whatever it is, you open it up and sign the sheet where other people have signed. There are also little objects that you can take and replace with your own. And then you register in the app on your phone that you found it and send a thank you to the person who hid it. There are graduated hints if you can't find it, but it's fun to keep looking without them. The one I found was hidden about 18 months ago and had about 25 people who found it before me.
If you like community-based puzzles, you might really like this! It's neat thinking this is happening all over the world.
