God wants us to be ourselves, does he ?

Oh so God wants us to be our "godly self".
You mean kind and loving? But I'm naturally hateful and unkind.
This "godly self" sounds very alien to me. Ok, if I'm in a good mood , maybe I can do it. But earlier today I was my "ungodly self". Very irritable. Even the dog looked puzzled.

Some writers talk about a "true self" that we should strive for.
I am a fan of natural enthusiasm. If this "true self" is humourless and overly polite, I want no part.

I think this is our number one goal. To become the kind of person God wants us to be. He would never set unrealistic goals for us. He wouldn't want us to be something or someone that didn't fit our natural personality.
We have to get to know ourselves. And accept ourselves yet striving to improve all the time. Growth. Spiritually, emotionally and so on.
What can Humble achieve before inevitable demise? Who can he become? It's all about me apparently. Maybe I am a narcissist.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35 NKJV

Michael likes to quote the Bible but what does he think? Is he afraid to say something un biblical? I think God wants Michael to relax a bit more and be more human. Don't you?

The term just be yourself is usually used in certain situations in a good way. It's more like don't pretend to be someone you're not like some super hero and lie about yourself to impress others.

How do I know you are being yourself now?

"just be yourself"
Have you ever had that advice? I've always found that advice rather vague.
Being "just myself", I might ;
Eat too much
Sleep too much
Quit my job
Insult people
Have bad will towards others
Never liked that popular saying...

It is so much human nature to be self conscious, and even self righteous.right?
The ego..
Our defense and our hindrance.

I want to be less self minded than I am today.
I think it is hindered me a lot actually..
God knows us better than we do ourselves.
Beeing myself is letting God guide me.
He knows my talents and skills and shows me how to use them, if I trust Him more and my puny brain less.. ?

I think in a sense that if I trust in my self and even do my best I am to some degree deceiving myself.
I believe that because what I think or do is much a product of my sorcumstances.

Psychology teaches about us beeing products of heredity and environment.
so how much of me is me?
hmmmmm.

Humor is very important to me. Makes my life better and the best form of therapy to me.
I believe in not taking ourselves too seriously.
I like people like that.. they are easy and good to be around I think..

We can be ourselves with God. He doesn’t want us to be phony because he can see all our thoughts and intentions. We have a choice though. We can bring our feelings to God and ask Him for a new heart. All we need to have is the slightest bit of faith and He is faithful. When we feel like doing things that aren’t God’s will, we can hold back from doing those things. It doesn’t change who we are, but we can bring ourselves into submission to Christ and not sin. We can change, by allowing God to make those changes that give us God’s character. If we don’t submit to God and submit to sin, we change, but for the worst. So it’s ok to be ourselves, but we have choices.

PS - your dog will still recognize you.

It can be a lifelong search...."who am I?"
Yes I know it does sound self absorbed.
But a lot of us waste time thinking we know who we are, when we don't.
Yes I'm a child of God, but what does that mean exactly?
Yes I'm a baby boomer with Irish ancestry, but I'm more than that surely.
Yes I'm a confused Catholic with an awesome sense of humour, but does God actually think I'm funny?

God has a sense of humour. I think you are funny so He probably does too ?

Is being ourselves necessarily a good thing? After all, are we not all vain with a sinful nature and fallen short of the glory of God? But then God's Word also says...

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;
1 Timothy 4:4 NKJV

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV

If we be ourselves as God intended us to be then what?
