Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman

has anyone here read it? it is a very quick and short read. i would love to get your thoughts on it. i have to say, from my reading of historians like bart erhman, i found pullman's retelling of the gospel entirely plausible. i tired to find fault with it, but i could not.

(but please, attack the ideas in the book, not pullman himself. despite his own religious views, i think the books is very fair and respectful. in fact, i think you can argue that it defends the holy spirit)

nope, just can't read phillip pullman. it is not his beliefs, but his agenda that concerns me. he wrote the golden compass trilogy to encourage atheism among children. he is set on making the world a more Godless place, and i just can't support that.

you'd be very surprised by this book. it can be read by a christian audience as a defense of the work of the holy spirit. it is by no means an atheistic interpretation of the gospels. in fact, i guarantee the book will make you love the jesus of the gospels even more.

luckily, god gave us free will, and is not so insecure as to be worried about pullman and his fictional novels. children should be given knowledge of all faiths so that they can as adults determine where the truth is to be found.

but pullman has no "agenda", other than making us think while entertaining us
