We must maintain the righteousness of Christ abiding in Him and bearing fruit. Jn 15:4 Enduring to the end. Mt 10:22

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

If we live by the flesh we will fulfill the deeds of the flesh and obtain the fruits of the flesh! (death)

If we live by the spirit we will fulfill the deeds of righteousness and obtain the fruits of righteousness!
(life)

If we live by the deeds flesh we put to death the spirit, if we live by the spirit we put to death the deeds of the flesh!

(we must do one or the other, there is no third "im saved by faith alone" and don't have to do anything option)

What does it means to live by the spirit?

It is to fulfill the deeds of righteousness!

rom 8:2-18

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

((Christians required to fulfill the deeds of rightousness))

Lk 1:74-75

74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
(deeds)

1 John 3:10
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Romans 2:6

The holy cross the standard of righteousness!

Works involved in Salvation!

The first problem comes from the error that justification and salvation are the same, and happen at the same time, this is thee cause of so much misunderstanding and division.

this is the cos that tends to apply to salvation the requirements and nature of justification, such as it is a gift and we cannot earn it, otherwise it's a "gospel of works" etc.

The general redemption accomplished by Christ apart from us in His life death and resurrection is ours as a free gift, and His life (union) and merits (grace) are applied to our souls in justification.

But justification is not salvation!

Justification is union with Christ in grace, and we have these in fragile earthen vessels.

After this comes faithfulness, perseverance, sanctification, growng in grace & virtue, abiding in Christ & bearing fruit by the deeds of righteousness that make us holy, if we confuse these with justification we will here statements like "yours is a works gospel" you earn salvation" etc.

Faith, Hope, & Charity!

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The means of salvation after justification (union in Christ by grace with life of the spirit) is according to the purpose we were created for; to know, love, & serve the Lord God!

Knowledge: Faith
Serve: Hope
Love: Charity

ez 36:25-27

25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Romans 5:5
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

It is to fulfill the deeds of righteousness!

Faith, Hope, & Charity!

Know, love, & serve the Lord God!

We received the grace of justification, union with God thru Christ empowered by grace and the spirit to accomplish His divine will!

We can by sin lose grace and be separated from God in spiritual death until repentance or physical death which makes death eternally even though we were justified at one time!
