Heavenly preparedness

We learn to live in heaven right from how we live hear on Earth, someone said. If you can't live decently here on earth you may find it pretty hard to live a heavenly life.

And a book says (about someone who saw heaven) that all would spend about a hundred plus years in heaven, at Abraham 's, learning how to live the heavenly life: thus the Abraham's Bossom's thing. So a process requires you acquire the heavenly etiquette, culture o way of life from the teacher Abraham. (sorry if I have messed the story up. I am yet to read the book. I friend just told me about it).

I think there may be something in that. That's part of what the Church is about.

I'm also reminded that, in C. S. Lewis' book The Great Divorce, somebody runs bus tours from Hell to Heaven, but the people from Hell don't like it.

That sounds like nonsense, though. I don't believe these "I saw heaven" stories.

If you read Colossians Chapter three this is how we are to live here on earth as it will be in the New Jerusalem that is our final destination.

Some may be true...if John's is.

Yes, but John's is in the Bible.

Others are just made up. Like this.

In any case, any "vision" of Heaven or Hell that's not in the Bible can't be checked (not until it's too late, anyway), so it can't be trusted.

It's pretty much an accepted concept in mainstream Christianity that when we get to heaven we will have been made perfect. Why would a perfect being need to spend 100 years learning to do things differently?

This is a new theory to me, it sounds more based on the world ("You are never good enough, you must always do better than what you are currently doing").... than the bible

:wave2 wwjd and welcome to CF.

None of us are truly worthy of Gods grace for we always fall short of His glory, but yet He sent His only begotten son, John 3:16,17, that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus we will see the kingdom of God by spiritual renewal spoken of in John 3:3-7; Romans 10:9,10. It's not by our righteousness that makes us do good, but only through Gods righteousness that directs us to conform to those things from above and not the things here on earth, Colossians Chapter 3.

My dad used to say, when you stop being better, you stop being good...

Very profound...

That is why we need to set our minds on above. In the Spirit, your thoughts are how you communicate. If you have unclean thoughts, you would be quite embarrassed. Everyone will know your innermost being.

Yes we should strive to be better (running the race as Paul says) , but God knows we cannot be perfect while in this sinful world. That is why Jesus died. If we were able to be prefect, we wouldn't need salvation
God accepts us as we are: Imperfect. Fallen. Evil. Stumbling time after time

what I am trying to say is... I feel I am loosing my mind living in a world where nothing I do is ever good enough.
To some it might mean you can work to be better.... but if your confidence is low, it means that no matter HOW good you get, it isn't enough... so why try?

Good question, Brother. I can sure relate.

Why try...because, God will not be mocked. Galatians 6:7

We have to try. If we knowingly...uh, go ahead with sins temptation... Thinking, oh, I can't be perfect, but one day God will make me perfect...we mock God. We're hearers only then.
We can't bear any fruit without trying. Matthew 3:10

Make sense?

Yes, but having to pass a perfectness test in heaven / the new earth doesn't :)

Thats why Paul says"offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God...2.Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world..."(Rom 12:1) and to focus like a compass on the "heavenly reward" ,were it is promised if we live "holy lives" here on Earth "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God 2. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.3.For you died , and your life is now hidden with Christ in God"(Col.3:1-3).So we have to just work on the "decently" part as I see it.No two ways about it.

Whoops Ive got this quote business all messed up.
This is the reply to Classics initial post.

Musically speaking,
There is a stairway to heaven...but a highway to hell. Probably says alot about predicted traffic flow patterns.

I think this makes sense. Scripture tells us that there will be no thieves in heaven. It also tells us, thou shalt not steal. In the Lord's prayer it says, thy kingdom come, thy will be done...on earth...as it is in heaven. Yes.

A hundred years don't sound right. God lives outside the time domain. Jesus emptied Abrahams bosom, didn't He?
Heavenly etiquette does sound like something everyone should know. I recall a testimony where someone visited heaven, and saw Jesus giving instructions to an Angel. The Angel did not turn and walk away from Jesus. He bowed to Jesus, then took a couple steps backward before turning to go his way. I can see that. If I'm blessed enoughed to be in attendance at the marriage supper of the lamb, I'm not touching anything until told to, and I see which fork everyone else is using first, lol. :yes

Ohh, that's going to be a good supper! Smell the wine first and take it all in...swirl it in the glass and watch it's viscosity...mmmm, etiquette is patience and humble. :)
