Home Thermostats

Which makes them perfect for warm climates. (I would think)

.

No. Holding cold for a long time also means hold the heat (or absorb/pass the heat).

If the blocks are solid then the R value is less. Air is a good insulator! (Insulation filled will bring it up some too.)
im not sure how they insulate the exterior walls they may build them in behind the stucco on the inside. but air? it wouldn't be circulated here there are no more of the auto wind driven cirucaltors that make a bunch racket when they good bad on the roof. I may be wrong but my homes doesn't have that.

The air doesn't have to be circulated when it's being used for insulation. The only ways to insulate concret is to either use the spray on stuff or to frame it out and then install insulation.

my home has the spray type foam on the roof. It may be every where.

Another thing that might help in Florida is to paint the house white and install heavy draperies.

Bright colors absorb less heat than dark colors. Think about black cars in summertime down there. Sweltering! View attachment 5339

uhm water stains. white is the worst for that with sprinklers. white is used for the base coat often. my home is white. but my wife likes the Spanish style of colors from the older homes. earthen colors. ie like the colors used by the American Indians in new mexico. ie terra cotta. most of the old Spanish homes that haven't been painted in long time will change from that red to some pink or orange color or nasty brown. some were green.i have a few pics of those I think.if not google earth will let me find a home to post. those Spanish style homes are all over and are the older type homes along with the florida cracker home.

well, the lighter the color the better.

people buy homes for beauty not functionality. sorry they do. I have seen homes where they had more glass sq footage then I do on my front outer wall!

Well then they can't complain if they sweat, lol.

years ago we didn't put ac in the schools and it was considered a waste of money. now we waste money trying to be green while still cooling those kids. if they are worried for mother nature then why not yank the ac?

The house we rent is around 200 years old and has an old coal furnace in the basement, but we use wood in it and the only thing the thermostat does is open and closes the vent door manually. Ironically my husband works for a lumber yard and we get our wood for free so no winter heating bills other than the blower that uses electric. Our electric bill is usually around $70.00 a month in the winter. No worry about emissions with the furnace as it's all kiln dried wood.

I love a dishwasher.I would really miss it if I did not have one.I do a lot of dishes by hand but when I am making a bigger meal it is nice to put everything in the dishwasher and turn it on.

mama says dems of the devil.lol

I have a steam generating dishwasher.
Is that a new concept? All of the dishwashers I have had are older.I have not had the opportunity or need to do research on the newer dishwashers. My new washing machine has a steam setting and I love it.

for rinsing and washing its new. most use steam rinse.

Thermostats have come a long way from the old turn dial thermostats, you can set the time for them to go off or on while you are not at home they have clocks on them, they can even learn your habits, everything is electronic today they are even WIFI thermostats out there. They even have one that will sense when you are back home and automatically adjust the heat without you doing anything

I wonder how secure those are. not that it would matter much save a prank. ie its cold outside and you want to prank someone.
