Is It Possible To Believe In Jesus ... And NOT Be Saved?

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Is It Possible To Believe In Jesus ... And NOT Be Saved?

Satan votes YES., as he believes IN Jesus....without a doubt.

However, to believe in, is not the same as to believe ON.
Think of it like this..
Knowing about, is to believe in....this is to understand it.....for example you can know about water in a pool but till you have been IN it, you only know about it.
Believing ON, is to TRUST IN what you have believed on.
Faith is Trust, and trust is reality, its a real experience.... its not just knowing about something ONLY as a definition of what it is.
To believe ON, is to come to a real place of TRUST.
This is Faith.

The Father of all lies is also called Jesus. In scripture hes called 'another jesus'. There is millions of them.

In Mary Katherine Baxter's book, A Divine Revelation of Hell, she describes a minister who spent 30 years evangelizing, but went to hell herself for murdering her unfaithful (but repentant) husband, the other woman, and herself. At no point did she actually stop believing in Jesus.

How does Katherine Baxter know the minister went to hell?

What does the bible say about this?
Depends on which kind of believe you're talking about.
I believe I'm going shopping this afternoon.
Does that mean I'm going? No.
The devil believes God exists. Does that mean he's going to heaven? No.

When the N.T. was written, it was written in Greek.
The Greek language is much richer than the English and meanings are more precise.

If you BELIEVE in the Greek meaning of the word, then, yes, you are saved.
In Greek believe means to know in your heart and not in your head. It means to accept it as your very own, it means to adhere to, to follow, to agree with, to imitate. If you believe in something, you will DO it.

The words faith and trust also come to mind. If you believe in someone, you will also trust that person. You will trust that they will do what they said. And you have faith in them. Faith is knowing and having the assurance that they will do what is promised, faith is having trust in them and faith is also believing in them.

It's a circle.

Wondering

How does Katherine Baxter know the minister went to hell?
If you've ever read her book, over a period of 30 days (3 hours/night), God gave Mary K. Baxter visions of hell and commissioned her to write a book on her experiences. (She also had 10 days in Heaven.) She, with the Lord at her side, visited many of the damned, and knew their stories why they were there. If you don't believe in her visions' authenticity, then the reference has no meaning for you.

So am I also to believe all those Catholic saints that wrote books about the same type subjects?
I'm sorry Kevin.
I'm not open to private person's personal experiences with the afterlife.
They should keep it private.

There is revelation which is meant for all of us. It's in the bible.
There is continuing revelation. That means that some biblical concepts become clearer as time goes by but they do not CHANGE.

Then there is private revelation. That's between a person and God. I do not believe this type of revelation should be shared and should be kept personal and private.

If you like Baxter, there's a whole slew of Catholic saint's lives you could read about. You'll even find purgatory in some of them. So does this mean purgatory exists? If so, everyone on these threads is wrong.

Stick to sola scriptura.

Do you realize that this means that we're all lost?

No-one's insisting you to believe this. Believe as you wish. I just put it out there as it relates to the original post, though in an indirect way. Some people might find it useful. Also, remember you're talking to someone who also experienced a vision.

Actually, the Lord commanded Baxter to write a book of her experiences and spread it around the world. She did just that.

Are you speaking to me?
I didn't know that about you Kevin. I don't really know you.
But if you did experience a vision, it' for YOU.
I have stories to tell you. But I wouldn't. They're important only to me.
The bible is for everyone. We can't lose sight of that.

But you didn't answer my questions.

1. So all these people who say they see Mary and she tells them how we're supposed to pray the rosary every day are to be taken seriously and so we're not obeying God?

2. And some of these saints have been to purgatory. Which would mean that Catholics are right and we're wrong.

3. If the minister believed in Jesus and she's in hell, it means we're all lost because we're all going to die with sin and the bible doesn't really differentiate sin.

You see what I mean. There are no real answers for the above. I don't really expect you to answer the questions. Just to show that when you depart from scripture you get into murky waters.

Wondering

Well, I basically didn't want to get into a defense or debate situation at all. The reference to Baxter's book was intended as supplemental support, but not a cue for debate. If you don't believe her testimony, simply ignore it. But since I do have answers to those particular questions, why not?

1. So all these people who say they see Mary and she tells them how we're supposed to pray the rosary every day are to be taken seriously and so we're not obeying God? Anytime you see idolatry being promoted, and a frequent subject does happen to be Mary, God's mother but not herself a saint or deity and should not be worshipped, it's time to worry about demons.

2. And some of these saints have been to purgatory. Which would mean that Catholics are right and we're wrong. Purgatory talk is Catholic rhetoric and possibly also of demonic influence. However, we're not supposed to be debating Cat topics at all here.

3. If the minister believed in Jesus and she's in hell, it means we're all lost because we're all going to die with sin and the bible doesn't really differentiate sin. We do all start out lost and will surely die for our sins if not for a couple critical differences; the saved will repent their sins before dying, and also forgive those who have trespassed against them.

Having read her book I had to do a lot of research. I came to the conclusion along with many others that this book is riddled with error after error, is doctrinally dangerous at best.

I'm not sure if you have done your own research. If not I suggest you do, if you have then you are obviously happy with your own conclusions.

What if we don't get a chance to repent?

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
For this subject, my favorite has always been Romans 10:8-13

I guess you burn.
How could that be if Jesus said He would save us?
If we're depending on Jesus to save us, then HE WILL.
No matter what.
He knows if we would have been sorry or not. He knows if we're sincere or not.
If we are, we're safe. If we're not, we're never safe even when we SAY we're sorry but really aren't.

If we can't trust ih Him, who can we trust in?
John 6:68.

Trust in Him.

Is It Possible To Believe In Jesus ... And NOT Be Saved?
What does the bible say about this?
Absolutely not! Just knowing Jesus is not the same as believing in him!
Satan probably knows Jesus a lot better than most of us will ever know him in this life! But, in know way, does Satan believe in Jesus...to believe in him is to accept him....Satan knows him but rejects his salvation!
  • John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
  • John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
  • John 6:47 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
  • John 5:24 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
  • John 3:36 - He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
  • Acts 16:31 - And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
  • John 8:24 - I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.
  • Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
  • Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
  • Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.
  • 2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
  • 1 John 1:7 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Satan knows all of this but does NOT believe in it!!! Those of who are saved, understand and believe in this. 1 Corinthians 1:18
