Is It Right...??

So uh, I had a thought. Is it a right thing for us to...pray to the Lord to heal someone? On our own I mean, cuz one time the Lord told me to pray for a Brother, and I did...but all through the four gospels in the teachings of Jesus, He says, Go out and spread the gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons and all sorts of things like that. And He said these signs will follow those who believe AND, that all that He has done we shall do these things and even greater things...

So what do we do? If a problems crops up, we're on here quick, pray for me da da da and pray to the Lord for the particular problem that a Brother or Sister has and we ask the Lord to heal them, do this or that for them and...I wonder is this a right thing for us to be doing?

He has given us authority to do these things in His name...and we don't seem to really be doing it that way? We go into prayer and ask the Lord to do it, and He has already told us to go do it ourselves. Hmmm.

Is it right to pray for God to move and help someone when He told us to do it (in His name?) Now at first, the knee jerk reaction is, of course it is right to pray for people...but that isn't exactly what Jesus tells us to do in the gospels. What do you all think about this?

Well, now, this is a very thought-provoking question. I'm sort of struggling with a similar issue myself. If we personally do the healing, then it's a kind of psychic healing, and doesn't that mean it's an occult practice to be shunned? Does it make a difference if you do these things in His name?

Very curious to see what people think about this.

I think you are referring to when He gave these powers to His 12 disciples to go throughout Israel and declare that the Kingdom was at hand.
To authenticate that message.
Though elsewhere, His last night of earthly ministry He told the disciples that greater things than He had done would be done by believers in the future.

Are you asking if it is okay if we try and heal someone or pray for them to be well?

I see no issue with praying for the sick. There seems to be no objection to this. Now, if someone tries to heal another with magic or in another name that is not God then I can see some serious problems.

James 5:14-16:
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

I am referring to them. But as I see it, they were the very first Christians, followers of Jesus, just as we are today. So He was talking to all of us.

Now that's right, huh?! This scripture did not occur to me. But He also did give believers authority (in His name) so sometimes we are to take authority and other times pray for them?

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. Matthew 9:29 KJV

The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Acts 14:9 KJV

Don't forget about the 70:

After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. Luke 10:1 NKJV

And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ Luke 10:9 NKJV

Great scripture as we are all Disciples of Christ and all we do is through Christ and not of ourselves.

I think the eleven ( not counting Judas Iscariot) followers that became Apostles had roles that are not everyone's. I question that we all are empowered to go around healing people.

We who are of faith in Christ through the Spiritual rebirth from above are empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit that works in us and through us as there is nothing we can do of our self. When praying for another, especially for healing, they also need to believe and have faith in God to heal them. When laying on of hands it is not us, but God's Spirit working through us as we pray in the name of Jesus.

Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

If we can use our God given gift and/or knowledge to help someone heal I do not see why it would be wrong for us to aid in someone's recovery. Life is too valuable to not intervene at times. We should do everything for God. Remember The Good Samaritan? He helped the injured man when others wouldn't. So I would say it is okay to help others.

As far as asking for healings
No...not really
But we do it anyway.

We can't tell God what to do. We don't order Him around.
We can ask, we can plead...but that's no guarantee that God will do as we ask. We don't know what God's plan for the future is.

But we can ask for guidance and wisdom and support.

I knew two different absolutely beautiful young ladies when I was young...just before college that both died of illness that is perfectly treatable today.
Another guy I knew had leukemia and had no hair from the treatment. He was really smart too. He didn't make it either. He left school before graduation.

Another guy from culinary school had a form of stomach cancer...I'm told that it's treatable today without it ever coming back...he didn't make it either.

Another young lady (a supposed Christian) found out she had a terminal lung/pulmonary disease. So she went on a long term European vacation on credit...debt that she could never recover from. She got a miraculous healing. Too bad about the debt though. (She was not a friend)

I have no idea as to what God has in mind for anyone.

I use to question God why some are healed and others are not. Even questioning my own healing as my body grows worse with arthritis and now developing nephropathy in my feet. I've prayed throughout the years and have had others lay hands on me, but yet I live this way.

I asked God once again, why and He told me that I needed to rise above the infliction's in my body as flesh will deteriorate and die, but to concentrate more on His will for me and in what He has called me in service to Him. I might live in pain, but God is greater than my pain.

2Cor.12:7-10
There was given to Paul a thorn in the flesh..
For this thing I besought the LORD thrice, that it might depart from me.
And He said, My grace is sufficient for thee, for My strength is made perfect in weakness..
For when I am weak, then am I strong.
Amen
