Jesus Christ Demands EQUAL Honour to the Father

“so that all will Honour the Son even as they Honour the Father. He who does not Honour the Son does not Honour the Father Who sent Him” (John 5:23. NASB)

Here we have Jesus make a very powerful statement, He says that ALL must “Honour” Him, “EVEN AS” they “Honour” the Father. Further, He also says, that, if He is not “Honoured”, then the Father Himself, Who sent Him, is not “Honoured”.

The Greek adverb used here, “kathṓs”, has the meaning, “according as, just as, even as, in comparison”, which is to say, “EXACTLY AS”, with no difference between the Honour shown to Jesus Christ, and the Honour shown to God the Father.

The Greek verb, “timáō”, has the meaning, “honour, revere, reverence”

In the Book of Isaiah, we read:

“I am YHWH. That is My Name. I will not give My Glory to another, nor My Praise to engraved images” (42:8)

The Hebrew noun used here, is “kâbôwd”, which is used for, “honour, splendour, glory” (Brown, Driver, Briggs Hebrew Lexicon; Gesenius, Hebrew Lexicon)

If Jesus Christ is not YHWH, and 100% COEQUAL with God the Father, then what He says in John 5:23, is blasphemy, something Jesus would never do.

This is one of the strongest verses in the Bible, where Jesus Himself claims to be COEQUAL with the Father.

In John 17:5, we read of Jesus Christ addressing the Father:

“Now, Father, Glorify Me together with Yourself, with the Glory which I had with You before the world was”

Here Jesus is saying to the Father, to Glorify Him, TOGETHER with Himself, with the Glory He always had with the Father, from all eternity.

“which I had”, is in the Greek, “hēi eichon”, which is the imperfect, active. This refers to the past, but as continuing. The same can be seen in John 1:1, where we read,

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”

Here we have the Greek verb, “en”, used three times, which is translated, “was”, and also in the imperfect tense, which is used as “continued, eternal existence”. Jesus Christ, “The Word”, has always COEXISTED “pros”, “by the side of” “The Father”. As GOD, Jesus Christ has no beginning, exactly as the Father and Holy Spirit (Hebrews 9:14, “pneumatos aiōniou”)

In the Book of Revelation, we also see where Jesus Christ is COEQUAL with God the Father:

"And ALL of the Creation, which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all things that are in them, heard I saying, to Him Who sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb, be ALL the Blessing, and ALL the Honour, and ALL the Glory, and ALL the Might, for ever and ever. And the four living creatures said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped." (5:13-14. so emphasized in the Greek)

Whatever is in the passage, said about God the Father, “ALL the Blessing, and ALL the Honour, and ALL the Glory, and ALL the Might, for ever and ever”, is EQUALLY for Jesus Christ. The Greek conjunction, “kai” (AND to the Lamb), is used many times “expressing emphatic assertion”, as in John 5:23, “EXACTLY AS”.

In John 5:23, we read of Jesus Himself saying that everyone must HONOUR Him, IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY, as they HONOUR God the Father. No only so, but, as we see in the passage in Revelation, “ALL The Blessing, ALL The Glory, and ALL The Might”, are EQUALLY for the Father and Jesus Christ, “from eternity to eternity”

In verse 14 it also says that Jesus Christ is WORSHIPPED TOGEITHER WITH God the Father.

It is impossible, if, as some say, that Jesus Christ is “inferior” to the Father, or is “created” by the Father, for any of these passages to be true concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. What is very clear, is that the Father is ALMIGHTY GOD, and Jesus Christ is also ALMIGHTY GOD. The phrase in Revelation 5:13, “to kratos” (strength, might, power), “The MIGHT” (as in Isaiah 9:6, “’êl Gibbôr”, for Jesus Christ, and 10:21, for the Father, MIGHTY GOD), is used EQUALLY for BOTH the Father and Jesus Christ, Who are ALMIGHTY.

1. God is Spirit, John 4:24, not flesh and blood and in the OT either spoke directly to the prophets or by angels and also various objects like a burning bush or an ass for example. Between the OT and NT God was silent towards Israel as when they returned to Israel from the Babylonian captivity they came back as merchants and not shepherds as they were disobedient to God going after other gods, Book of Malachi.

2. Jesus being the very Spirit of God before the foundation of the world as He and the Father are one was prophesied by the Prophets in the OT and spoken of by John the baptist in the NT as John being the forerunner of Christ calling all to repent. As foretold Christ did come as the word of God made flesh (skin, bone, blood) to be that light that shines in darkness. He came as redeemer Savior through Gods grace as Christ is our faith that all can repent of their sins and have eternal life with the Father to all who will believe in Him as Lord and Savior. John 1:1-4; 1 Peter 1:13-21

3. After the sacrifice of Christ God raised Him from the grave and as He had to ascend back up to heaven the promise was that He would never leave us or forsake us as when He ascended He sent down the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God) to indwell all who will believe in Christ and His finished works on the cross. In the OT Gods Spirit fell on them for a time and purpose under heaven. Now we are indwelled with that power and authority through Gods grace that the Holy Spirit now works in us and through us teaching all things God wants us to learn. All three are Spiritual and Spiritual awakenings in us to know the will of God and walk in His statures. John 16:7-15

Ephesians 4: 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

1 John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word (Jesus), and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit as all three coequal Gods Spirit.

Jesus being the right arm of God. Isaiah 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Jesus is the word of God. John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Jesus is word, light and life that is God come in the flesh. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Gods Holy Spirit has come to indwell us and teach us. John 14: 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Jesus is not honored in the same sense as God provided that Jesus is not himself God nor worshipped as God anywhere in the Bible. The specific context to which Jesus is honored like the Father is in regards to the righteous judgement that has been delegated to Jesus. God judges through man named Jesus, not the other way around.

Acts 17
31For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”

Furthermore, in a general sense, Jesus is not equal to God.

John 14
28You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
