Bible Study John the Baptist ?

is it in the bible that John the Baptist was a Christian ?
YES! One special event, one special purpose. Who is John's mother's womb to you?
Luk 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
Luk 1:16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

supposedly that would make him sinless and definitely not less than the least in the kingdom - btw have you noticed that what was possible for John was not possible for Jesus who was also "man born of woman" but definitely greater than John" but not according to Protestants it seems who are specially inspired by the HS - wincam

I'm trying not to suppose anything other than John was filled with the Holy Ghost which the world cannot receive. (Joh 14:17). My other question involved John's mother that he was separated from. I will suggest Gal 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me (Paul) from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace. Have you ever considered that the mother being written of is Israel and Judaism of the old covenant? John and Paul were both delivered from the old and born unto God by grace to be born of above.
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. :shrug

so was he or was he not highly favoured and sinless and definitely not required to be born again - or was he born again - wincam

If John the Baptist received the Holy Spirit, do you read anywhere in scripture that we can do so without being in Christ which designates us as born of God? As to John's natural assets we read in
Mat 11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. I will paste the following excerpt from a study I have access to concerning this passage.

"Among all that were born of woman there was none greater, is the Master's eulogy of John the Baptizer. There is one exception, "He that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." This latter statement has given rise to some discussion, yet it is not difficult. He is speaking of Himself. He does not intend to convey the impression that John was not in the kingdom of heaven, but that he was not the least there, hence cannot be the greatest. Christ has been abased to the lowest place. He voluntarily chose to become the least among the people of God, who constitute the kingdom of heaven; therefore He is the Greatest. He that abaseth himself the lowest, shall be exalted the highest; is the teaching."

John the Baptist was the first Old Covenant Prophet to come on the scene after 400 years of silence from Yahweh. He was a Jewish Prophet. Was he saved? Most say yes. Was he a Christian? Christianity wasn't really established until Pentecost.

but he was full of the HS and sinless from his mother's womb - btw it seems the true significance or purpose for Pentecost has not really been grasped e.g.did it really change non Christians into Christians and/or forgive sins or make them sinless - etc

twinc, let me ask you a question. What has qualified you to be called a Christian since you answered yes under your name?

All the people of Israel were taught from Gods Word in the O.T. to be God's children. Deut. 14:1, Psalm 82:6 for examples.

Jesus taught them the same thing:

Matthew 23:9
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

John the baptist was no exception.

They were baptized into Christ. They just didn't know it.

1 Corinthians 10:
10 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

John the Baptist was not sinless. All who have a natural birth, inherit Adams sin. Jesus was the only One who was born of a woman, and had no sin, because His birth was super-natural.

John wasn't a Christian by this definition..

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

But he most certainly understood the gospel of Jesus Christ..

John the Baptist was a Jewish prophet under the old covenant being the forerunner of Christ preaching a baptism of only repentance, not the Holy Spirit as the indwelling of the Holy Spirit had not yet come, Luke 3:1-18, so no, John was not a Christian, but a faithful servant called of God. No Jew has ever been called a Christian, not even the 12 disciples/Apostles or even Paul.

Acts 12:26 the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. The disciples in Antioch were Gentiles, not the 12 disciples, who accepted the teachings of the Apostles of Christ who were scattered abroad to teach as they established the church (body of Christ) in Cyprus, Cyrene and Antioch after that of Stephens death, Acts 11:19. The Gentiles were the first ones to be called Christians, Isaiah 62:2; 65:15

A disciple is one who follows after the teachings of the Gospel taught to the Jew first and then to the Gentiles, Romans 1:16. An Apostle is one who is first indwelled with the Holy Spirit then is sent out by God for the purpose of Gods mission of spreading the Gospel, Matthew 28:16-20; 1Corinthians chapter 12.

simple and I can even get hold of a certificate to prove it - twinc
A piece of paper doesn't mean much twinc.

It's what you believe that makes you a Christian or not.
The real question is this:
Do you believe Jesus is God, as in Yahweh
Or
Do you believe He is the Son of God given authority by Yahweh to be the awaited Messiah?

If you believe the first, you can call yourself a Christian. A little Christ. We understand Christ to be God, Yahweh.
If you believe the second, you are still saved under the blood of Messiah, but you cannot call yourself a Christian.

Wondering
