King of Glory

'After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there. He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply. On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. But the word of God continued to spread and flourish. '

After Peter’s miraculous escape from prison, Herod ordered that the guards be executed, assuming that it was their fault. There was no sign of him breaking out of prison, so in the eyes of man, the only explanation would be that the guards just let him out since the angel literally just opened the door for him and loosened the shackles. That is awesome! God can open the door to any personal prison a person may be in and loosen the shackles so that her/she can just walk right out!! He is a chain-breaker!!! He gives freedom!!! His deliverance is full and complete!! Amen!! All we have to do is believe Him and walk out!!!

The people were dependent on Herod for their food supply as well as peace, so they worshiped Herod like a god. They said, “This is the voice of a god and not a man.” Herod did not give God the glory, so an angel of the Lord struck him down and he was eaten by worms and died. The Lord deserves ALL the glory and will not share it with another. These people worshipped this earthly king because their god was their stomachs. They did not realize that Jesus is the King of Kings and that their heavenly Father could provide for their needs without them worshipping their earthly king above Him. The first commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your mind, heart, body, and soul and to have no other gods. When we put Him first, all else will fall into place. The Word promises that He will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches. This is not referring to our wants, but to our needs. He who provides for the birds of the air and dresses the lilies, will take care of us, too!! Hallelujah!! Thank you, Jesus!!!
