Bible Study KJV 1611 only???

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum or if it's been talked about to death.

I have some dear Christian friends on Facebook who seem to nerve me by continually posting KJV 1611 Preservation links. They post a verse, usually the one about "the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine..." (2 Timothy 4:3) and somehow I feel like the poster is trying to prove a point to me.

To me, sound doctrine is the gospel of Christ, that he was sent to earth to save sinners, and shed his blood on a cross for the forgiveness of sins, and be buried and then raised on the third day, and that he will come back. I first understood this truth by reading from a New American Standard Bible. For some reason, the KJ bibles held a veil over my eyes, and I couldn't understand it. But I understood the NASB.

I let him read what he wants, so long as he lets me read what I want to.

What do you guys think about this? Any similar experiences??

Yes Doug. I use my NASB most of the time for study and my KJV, ESV, and my RSV to get an in depth view of the message being given. Ignore the KJV Cult Fanatics and you study to show yourself approved, very few of them will be. Most them seem to be self justified and always looking for a reason to fight an imaginary enemy. May God bless your study.

Doug if one only had a page of the bibles new covenant, and the Holy Spirit to teach them, it would suffice. Thats all the early church had was the Holy Spirit and a few letters from Peter, Paul, etc.......

If anyone demands the KJV 1611 is 'the' version only, remind them the Geneva Bible 1599 came before. :)

I'm not an expert, but I think the big thing is to get a translation that's widely accepted and that you can work with, and go from there. I started out with a -very- easy to read version, The New Century Version. Perfect for someone as burned out as I was. I now use a NKJV, provided for me by my older, wiser, Pentecostal friend. I also have an NIV that I use now and then, plus I hit the internet for addresses and commentary.

Its also worth noting that the original KJV included The Apocrypha, which...of course...has changed since then. Times change.

God's Word is His Word if printed on a Hallmark card... or in this age on the internet... It was His Word when the guys had the scribes put it on parchment...
Yes there have been a number KJO around here

Hi DougK

First of all, welcome to the forum.

I also like the NASB. But, I could read any bible. In fact, it's a good idea. Sometimes you glean different ideas from just reading a different version.

However, I do think the KJV is incredibly poetic and wonderful for posting special verses...
Like: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.... It's beautiful.

But I don't like it for normal bible reading. Why?
Because first I have to TRANSLATE
and then understand the scripture.
It's too much to do.

God can speak to us from any version. I believe in reading the one we understand the most, even if it's the Living Bible.

My two cents...

1 John 2: 27 And as for you, the anointing which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you; concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him.
His word.
