Are you happy there?I belong to a Mega church it has been my church since 2003
I think every Mega Church is different with different denominations. What is more important is if that Church is teaching the true literal Word of God.I dunno...the one here, scares me. No real church government. Church members are called "owners," like its a corporation or something. Actually...it IS a corporation, with a board of directors and everything. The pastor/minister will NOT do your wedding, funeral, visit you when you're sick/in the hospital.
I imagine they're all different, though. I'm hoping so, anyway.
Try one with about 40 people, keep it open for orderly, spiritual discussion and you may change your mind.I just happen to prefer churches where the membership is only a few hundred, at most.
I'm in the land of denomination and tradition. Here church is understood all the more to be for evangelism (even though 'church' means 'called out ones').You must have some different churches wherever you live. Around here, almost any church is, basically, of the "small group" setup, with Sundays just being a time to reconnect with people in all the other small groups. Most of our small groups run around 15 people, meeting once or twice a week. A few meet more often.
And, the Sunday service is especially geared to recognizing and reaching out to visitors... because you have no idea if they are believers or non believers... and our collective church exists pretty much to reach the unsaved... not cater to saved people. The small groups cover that need.
Big Churches are like Big Cities, they are easy to feel like you are invisible, hidden. I was born to a Country Lass in the big city of Houston and never felt at home there. Even when I was a lost man I performed outside the city and when I was saved I went to a small Church because I could know everyone and I felt a strong need to never reflect bad on them and knew that I was their representative where ever I went. I tend to believe the ability to hide in the Mega Churches is what taints their reputations.I'm in the land of denomination and tradition. Here church is understood all the more to be for evangelism (even though 'church' means 'called out ones').
We have two mega churches in town with a third having just started up last month. Hey, if it's the only way to get unbelievers around the gospel then I guess there can be some good in it.
Yeah, I think there's a lot of that.I watch a lot of Christian channels to see what everyone has to say. Megachurches are obviously lead by charismatic personalities and I feel that these people are drawing others to themselves rather than Jesus.
How about a home with 6 or 8 members?A lot of people prefer that.Try one with about 40 people, keep it open for orderly, spiritual discussion and you may change your mind.
God's design for the church is for us to be open and close with one another, learning from one another, learning about each other, and then using our gifts accordingly. This can not happen in a gathering of hundreds of people. You will have to rely on other, smaller groups for that to happen but few will see the value in it, much less know that what happens there is actually what 'church' is all about.
The sacred cow of our Sunday morning worship tradition has won the day. The focus is on making church 'unbeliever friendly' in the hope of winning them to the Lord, while the flock starves to death. They in turn--if and when they get saved--will perpetuate the tradition.
Not all.Megachurch just means there are a lot of attendants. That it is a big church.A megachurch can be Baptist,Southern Baptist, nondenominational. Some megachurches are charismatic and some are not.The one I used to attend was a Community Church and it definitely was not Charismatic.I watch a lot of Christian channels to see what everyone has to say. Megachurches are obviously lead by charismatic personalities and I feel that these people are drawing others to themselves rather than Jesus.
I agree. Since I am in bed so much, I also watch a good deal of Church on the TV and I pray that the packed congregation is saved even though I know better. The only, real, good I see is that, on Sunday Morning, I can be sure they will hear something of the Gospel that might touch their hearts and lead them to the cross.I watch a lot of Christian channels to see what everyone has to say. Megachurches are obviously lead by charismatic personalities and I feel that these people are drawing others to themselves rather than Jesus.
Wouldn't it be great if all the saved would do that and invite the neighbors in?How about a home with 6 or 8 members?A lot of people prefer that.
That's TOO small. Those kinds of groups usually lack a structure of anointed leadership. How about a home with 6 or 8 members?A lot of people prefer that.
