Megachurches

Maybe you need some hell fire sermons.
Or maybe a sermon on the rapture, very uplifting.
I have never heard a sermon on the rapture. The last Church I attended the pastor did say he was pre-trib but he said there were several different end time eschatology beliefs among the Church.Maybe he did not want to step on anyones toes :shrug

How can you sleep through the rapture?Obviously you are not pre-trib.
I think he meant be asleep in that one isn't faithful to the lord or as futurist teach, rapture ready and is left behind.

Yeah, all us "nuts"

Yeah, all us "nuts"
you mean liberal and those that don't take the bible literally. funny thing is because I take the words when its not a idiom as literal I get called that. I don't believe in the bbt nor the toe.

Then, do you think he was following God? God does not call any of us to tickle ears but to proclaim the truth.

I have from my pastor now and others and on the radio. all have covered the other two, and said well I disagree and they are wrong but they are still brethren and its not worth separation and forming another church.

my pastor sung with two others and old hymm that was about the pre trib rapture.
some are looking for signs, Im feeling him coming and can hear him coming
that is a paraphrase of a line in that song.

I'd better go walk the dog.......................................................... (Yeah, that's the wisest thing to do.)

Let's take a closer look at the article quoted and examine some of the statements made by Phil Cooke (who benefits from the existence of mega churches, and therefore cannot be totally objective):

Hard to believe, but I sometimes think we Christians spend more time criticizing large churches than anything else.
Is this really true? Do Christians have nothing better to do than sit around criticizing mega churches? If someone begins with a gross exaggeration, then how seriously should we take the rest of the article?

From the perspective of a person passionately interested in how Christians engage today’s culture…”

Are Christians commanded to “engage today’s culture” or are we commanded to preach the Gospel and make disciples? These modern buzzwords mean absolutely nothing, but more and more churches are conforming themselves to the world and using the meaningless and politically correct terminology of the world. When Paul was preaching in Athens, he did not “engage the culture” but said “God now commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). That's exactly what Peter preached on the day of Pentecost. I wonder how many mega churches preach repentance week in and week out like the apostles?

You had a bad experience at a megachurch? Grow up.

Is that the correct response to a Christian who had a bad experience? Or should it not be “Perhaps we sinned against you. We will sit down and examine our actions in the light of God’s Word, and repent if we have wronged you”?

Megachurches are not as shallow as you think… Those who belong to megachurches display as high a level of personal commitment as do those who attend small congregations
Did it occur to Phil Cooke that shallowness and a high level of personal commitment can go hand in hand? Personal commitment is hardly the issue. There are too many Christians who follow “charismatic” leaders without giving a second though to the actual biblical content of their “sermons”. And there is no question that across the board, preaching is more and more superficial and shallow, and as someone said, many preachers are afraid of “stepping on toes”. Was John the Baptist afraid of stepping on toes?

Large churches generate publicity, which generates conversations, which generates more opportunities to share Christ with friends and co-workers
This is an assumption which may not necessarily be true. Multitudes responded to the Billy Graham crusades in the past, but only a very small fraction of them went on to become regenerated, consistent, conservative Christians. And let’s face it. The only publicity that Christians and churches get from the media is negative. Who needs that?

4. Megachurches engage the media. Like it or not, we live in a media-driven culture.
Once again we have the modern buzzwords “engage the media”. Well the media are basically deluded left-wing liars, and the less we have to do with their lies and spins, the better off we will be.

Megachurches are making a global impact
Possibly.
The real issues are: “Is the true Gospel being preached?” “Is sound Bible doctrine being taught?” “Are genuine conversions taking place?” “Are believers being Scripturally baptized and grounded in the Word?” Given the current apostasy in Christendom, this may not be happening, or happeing to a very small degree.

For these and other reasons, I think it’s time to remember we’re all on the same team
Really? What are the real motives of those who promote mega churches? And what about the self-promotion and aggrandizement, not to say anything about the attempts to pressure Christians into more and more “giving”?

I recognize that some people may just have an irrational beef with large churches, so I probably won’t change their minds
Is it “irrational” for a Christian to wonder whether he or she should “get lost in the crowd” and whether or not their spiritual gifts will be recognized and used within the church, which runs along the lines of a mega corporation rather than a church?
