me, yet again.
I talk to my older, wiser, Pentecostal friend, Verna, a whole lot. Usually daily. I'm a former...a lot of things...saved 4 1/2 years ago. She introduced herself to me while I was on an outing for a Pentecostal rehab program and gave me her contact info. I completed the program, got settled, and contacted her. We've been in touch ever since.
Now, I've moved back home. In this area, I'm labeled "Schizoprenic, from a 'good family'. His people take care of him" (good thing, too). She's an elderly widow of modest means (God blessed her with her husband's pension and the nice house they bought together before he died). Its...interesting. We're both Southerners, so there's that, to a point. Verna was born and lived most of her life in South Georgia. She was raised old school Church of God, and she's one of the few, the proud--the genuine, bona fide, cradle-to-grave Christians.
Anyway, Verna's really "going thru it," yet again. I don't know what that's about, honestly. She somehow always has time for me. I'm glad she does. As God has moved in my life, I've been able to be a much better, genuine friend to her. God is good!
The NT speaks of the importance of watching out for widows. I see now that widows --still-- have a rough time of things, even in 21st century America. Sadly, it seems that a lot of the problems come from family members, which I suppose is both disappointing and....to be expected, I suppose.
I ask that your pray for Verna, please. I've prayed that God will protect her, especially from those closest to her. Sad, sad, sad....but I'm beginning to see that this pattern emerges in families all over the place (not that seeing it happen all over to others somehow makes me feel better about it happening to Verna, of course).
I also ask that you pray that God will help her with health. She had a long lasting kidney infection (I think the official diagnosis is "chronic kidney infection") that required multiple rounds of antibiotics before it cleared up. And it seems...now, she may be facing another kidney infection. ugh. On the plus side, she has excellent medical coverage, so she can get treatment from specialists for very little $$$ from her end. I'm just...concerned. I didn't know this until recently, but heavy-handed, long term use of antiobiotics can lead to a number of problems, on top of whatever the original problems were. Plus, I kind of suspect that all the stress she's been thru--much of which I think was avoidable, had some people in her life actually cared enough--may be contributing to this and other physical problems.
OK. Thank you.
