Bible Study Narrow Gate is Jesus

Back when Matthew 7 was spoken by Jesus...

Cities had walls and gates. Those who were trapped outside of the city at night needed an access to get into the city. Because outside were thieves and leppers and all kinds of undesirables. And they hung out by the main gates when once through (during the day) held city officials and a pretty shopping mall and food vendors. Everyone waved and welcomed you to the city.

But for normal residents of the city there existed "secret" back ways into the city for night time access. You had to live there to know about this entrance. There was no fanfare for this entrance. It was intentionally difficult for visitors to find.

JohnDB that is interesting, Ty. Back in the day when the Disciples would hold their gatherings with others they would have to do it in secret places because of Roman persecution. History always repeats itself and the Church in many countries have gone underground, but yet rejoice in the Lord in open expression.

also the Disciples had to hide from the Jews on occasion.

Nicodemus, Joseph of Aremathaea (Luke 23:50- 53), and Gamaliel (Acts 5:34- 39) were three Pharisees that believed in Christ, but had to hide it for fear of going against the sect. Paul also was a Pharisee that persecuted Christians to death for the sake of the sect (Acts 22).

This what I meant.
John 20:19
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

We must understand, without the knowledge of the Cross for sanctification you will die spiritually. Romans 8:13, Zechariah 4:6-7

If you have Romans 8:13 you gotta include verse 14 as well.

Just saying...it's part of the context.
