So you don't respect the God given leader of your church? The word is forbidden in my church.
edited . But the Lord Jesus Christ taught the opposite (Mt 23:8-12): But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.Who should be addressed as Reverend?
So what do you call the man who raised you? His first name? Abba, which is aramaic for father, still used in isreal.or just dad, also equivalent to Abba.None. The use of these terms originated with the RCC (which has an ecclesiastical hierarchy). But the Lord Jesus Christ taught the opposite (Mt 23:8-12): But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. When Jesus said "Be ye not called Rabbi, neither be ye called Masters" it would be the equivalent of telling modern preachers "Be ye not called Reverend or Doctor", and telling priests "Be ye not called Father".
It is. The problem is the Reverend thing kind of makes some special. The order use to be ### then pastor >> Reverend. So you don't respect the God given leader of your church?
The history of the word is reverence, one who is to be respected.can it be abused? Yes.but I bet Paul wouldn't be disrepescted in the Church.the church can take things to far.thus is no different than the word Pastor.
And no mention of ReverendSo what do you call the man who raised you? His first name? Abba, which is aramaic for father, still used in isreal.or just dad, also equivalent to Abba.
If you get that ,Jesus was talking about how the jews abused the title.thus negating the five fold terms used by Paul about ministry.and some are teachers, pastors, evangelists, helpers.prophets.
Depends on the person.any title can be abused.I'm a staff seargeant.the word seargeant means serveant.yet often those that attain it will abuse it.It is. The problem is the Reverend thing kind of makes some special. The order use to be ### then pastor >> Reverend.
But today one simple term is adopted. The pastors would love to be Reverend, the Reverend would love to be very Reverend etc etc...
Reverend is related to that .the kjv uses the term reverance. And no mention of Reverend
Jesus was laying down a principle which would be binding on all Christian leaders and ministers, not merely addressing Jews, and some Christians continue to apply that principle even today. If you get that ,Jesus was talking about how the jews abused the title.thus negating the five fold terms used by Paul about ministry.and some are teachers, pastors, evangelists, helpers.prophets.
Missing the point.Jesus was laying down a principle which would be binding on all Christian leaders and ministers, not merely addressing Jews, and some Christians continue to apply that principle even today.
The above are all spiritual gifts (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers). But even the apostles simply called each other "Brother", since Christ said "All ye are brethren" (as quoted above). Please note:
And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. (Acts 9:17).
Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother. (Rom 16:23),
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you(2 Pet 3:15).
When hear a man refer to himself as The Right Reverend, it makes me angry
