My wife picked it up for me over the holidays. It's a Nikon Coolpix L340, which is a pretty decent little point and shoot camera for beginners. Still waiting for it to get here (we had to order it late), but I can't wait to try it out! She also grabbed me a tripod and a memory card.

That's a great new hobby to have, Blake! You're going to have a lot of fun taking pictures, and that camera looks to be a good one with which to begin the new hobby!

We'll expect to see the results of your new hobby from time to time in the Photography forum :wave2

Good hobby brother. The amount of times I have had oportunity to take awesome photos but didnt have a camera, or at least good one, is endless.

Just the other day I was sitting and seen these two native birds together on a post in the sunset but didnt have a camera.

Im sure you will have fun.

Never leave that unsecured I might have to secure it. I'm planning on buying a dlsr for my hobby.I have a lot of places to shoot. St augustine, the old putnam home,Casa Caprona

That's cool...a good one too.

I've been working on making a new tool bag since my wife got me some leather and a sewing kit.
Been a lot of work but fun. Gonna be a great bag when done. Been laying out patterns and sewing all night when I get home every day.

I'd like to see it when you get done, John. Snap a pic for us if you don't mind!

I registered a domain name for my up and coming photography website. Can't wait to get this thing started. I'll share a few pics from time to time. :)

Jason, bite the bullet and buy yourself a camera! You take pictures all the time anyway. Might as well get a nice piece of hardware and take it to the next level.

I have used one .a 10.1 mega pixel camera.nikon as well but it's not a dslr.the route pic thread. Look for the diesel plant .the power plant, big blue, the Catholic church.I photo while on the routes.sometimes as I found this a bulky camera will hinder me getting them as its less noticed with a smart phoneView attachment 8125 View attachment 8126

The well or pump house may date to ww2.the location of it makes it likely.it's out of place on the lot I saw it.

It's slow going. I can only stitch about 6-8 inches per hour.

Then there is all the planning and cutting of heavy leather. And more dying too. Then will come the gloss coat and rivets.
Got to have lots of pockets and features
The white leather will hold channel locks and I got one internal pocket started.
There's going to be tons more pockets.
You have to punch through the leather with an awl for each stitch. (Hopefully straight) Threading the needles is a major pain.

Well guys, I bit the bullet. I registered a .com domain, made a Facebook group, and uploaded my first picture. Lots of support from friends. If interested, PM me and I'll give you the links to my FB page and website. :) I wouldn't mind making a few new Facebook friends either, but, I post a lot conservatism so if that bothers you, you might not like being friends with me!

I need a hobby. I get bored after work. Since I have cut my drinking down by about 90%, as I used to drink most days after work to fill in time and, relax, I need something to replace it.

Im acturaly thinking the same or similar thing, as I want to do fishing videos I might also get a camera and do ocean photography, all things ocean, as I still live by the ocean. The other day I seen dolphins but had no camera, they were close and doing flips and stuff, things like that, seagulls and birds and fish and sealife, like crab and coral and reef, the list goes on. Oh and surf, many surf beaches, snap the perfect waves and sets, pointbreak and all.

Last night I had a tough time figuring out how to make a pocket pouch in my pouch. Finally figured out the pattern but it was late. Wasn't anything online either.

But that is the fun of it. Admitting what you don't know, getting it wrong and overcoming the obstacles which you now get right.

Good morning Blake,
I began your new hobby with a Browny in the 1950s and in Germany I picked up 2 East German Exata VX2B SLRs. You're far ahead of that because God is blessing.

However, You will take photos over time that you will wish to have been just a touch better or the light was horribly wrong and there is nothing you could have done. The answer is free and it does anything Photo Shop will do and without the three years college to learn how to use it.

GIMP and please, only download from the official GIMP website because people love to put spyware in free software. To get started open a to dim or to dark pic, select Colors in the Tool Bar and select Curves. Now grab the line running at a forty-five degree angle, move it left and up for to dark and right and down for to light.

Then grab the line away from the center and you can make it pop more or less. And to add an almost three D quality, close the Curves pop-up and go back to Colors and select Brightness and Contrast. Use the up and decrease buttons on each number box because it changes fast and try the Contrast,on the bottom of the pop-up first.

As you play and make some extreme poster shots, google gimp tutorials pdf. There are also video tutorials on YouTube but the pdfs are best because the are illustrated.

Blake, nice equipment, sir.
Kiwi, you can always take up model aircraft...trust me, those require constant tinkering as most of the stuff comes from China. Not to mention safety hazard if you screw up, so it's quite exciting.
If tinkering is not your cup of tea, perhaps a phantom by dji. Those "fly themselves"(use responsibly) and learning curve is much shallower. Less tinkering as well. I'd get lynched by hobby people for saying that of course. Aerial shots are quite phenomenal. You just can't beat an aerial of dolphins playing..

LOL! Jetblast, you re right! I have three battery powered Park Flyers and three Quad-Copters. The average Model Hobbyist looks down their very long noses when I used to be able to fly but I taught a couple of young men to love it.

Dan,
I'm sorry, I did not read your post earlier. Most of the cheap Point and Shoot Digital Cameras of today will shoot video of a reasonable quality. A Cam like the one Blake has should take high quality videos and living by the shore, you're right, both the video and the still shots are unlimited there.

If you do this, you also need GIMP.
