I had a few questions about Canaan and Noahs sons. First one is in Gen. 9:22 it says "And Ham, the father of Canaan saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without." And then it says in the same chapter verse 24-25 "And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.' "And he said, Cursed be canaan; a servant of servants shall be unto his brethren." What exactly did Ham do to get such a repremand from his father? Did he commit a sexual act on him? Was it the fact that he looked upon him being naked? What did he do that was so horrible?????

Second question, it says that Ham is the father of Canaan and that the Canaanites will be cursed. And Gen. 9:26 it says "And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be this servant." Now the Jews/Israelites(Heirs to the promise land/Canaan) Are of Shemitic origin. So how can the descendents of Shem, which are the Jews, be heirs to Canaan, the promised land, if Hams descendents are Canaanites and are cursed??

In lay mans terms, he went out and made Noah a laughing stock. Hey, Old Noah's passed out all drunk and naked :biggrin :biglol :lol:toofunny

Not cool... :grumpy:grumpy:grumpy
Later, when you look at the Alter for the Tabernacle, you see that God commanded a ramp so that their "Nakedness" wasn't exposed. God was kinda serious about certain body parts...

Your talking about different periods in time. This also sets the stage for Abram. Remember, Canaan wasn't alloted any of the land, yet he occupied it and thus, it was called the land of Canaan. Since the land was never meant to be for Canaan nor his decendents, we see God giving this land to Abraham. (15:27, 17:8)

Noah gives birth to Shem.
Shem has a bunch of kids.. Abram lines up with Shem...
Abraham gives birth to Isaac.
Isaac gives birth to Jacob.
Jacob wrestles with God, overcomes and is called Israel.
Thus, we have the 12 tribes of Israel which are Jacob's children.
The brothers sell Joseph into slavery, he goes to egypt, saves the family and they stay there for 400 years... Just like God told Abraham. (15:13)
Moses leads them out of Egypt.
They wander in the desert for 40 years
Joshua brings them across the Jordan, and into the land of Canaan.

How's that for a nut shell?

I cannot find Noah reprimanding Ham. What I do find is Noah execrating one of Ham's three sons. The other two— Mizraim, and Phut —were not execrated.

How can the descendents of Shem, which are the Jews, be heirs to Canaan, the promised land, if Hams descendents are Canaanites and are cursed??
It isn't essential to be somebody's biological descendant in order to inherit; for example:

†. Mtt 5:5 . . Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
And:

†. Prv 11:29 . . He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind

Genesis 9:22 "And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without."

Leviticus 18:7, 8 "The nakedness of they father, or the nakedness of they mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness." [verse 7] "The nakedness of they father's wife shat thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness." [verse 8]

Leviticus 20:11 "And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."

Genesis 9:25 "And he said, "Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall be unto his brethren."

What did this verse say? He [Noah] said, "cursed be Canaan". It says that Noah said, and not God, for it is Noah doing the talking. This old man was just getting up from an drunken binge, and has an hang-over, when he cursed Canaan, and not Ham. Canaan had just been conceived, and the embryo had just been formed inside Noah's wife. It was the act that Noah cursed.

Genesis 9:26 "And he said, "Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant."

This is still Noah doing the talking, and not God.

Genesis 9:27 "God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant."

As long as Noah was still the head of the house, this curse remained a fact. However, as soon as Noah was gone, so also was Noah's word, and his curse.
